L-Tryptophan did the exact opposite as it was supposed to.
I took 250mg of L-Tryptophan tonight to help me sleep. About 10 minutes after taking it I started feeling dizzy and anxious and started feeling very cold.
I was so cold and jittery I turned up the heater and took my temperature out of curiosity. My temp was 95 degrees, felt so horrible I was about to go to the Hospital.
I drink a bunch of water and laid down, and about and hour later my temperature raised up to 97 degrees and felt much better.
I am glad I didn’t take the recommended dose for sleeping, which is 1500mg. Still not sleepy as you can tell by the time of this post.
Anybody ever had anything similar happen or Am I just the odd person it effected in a bad way.sheep

Sounds like a Serotonergic Drug Interaction causing too much Serotonin, according to side effects you describe. Are you taking any type of Pharmaceuticals or Herbs/Supplements that may increase your Serotonin levels?

Tryptophan amino acid will cause the rise in serotonin and if you have too much serotonin neurotransmitter you will be experiencing these very negative symptoms Op described.

My suggestion is STOP using it an do not use it again!

If you are having trouble falling asleep then try Melatonin because this is what your body produces when the lights are turned out and you will fall asleep!

Yes. Melatonin is good. Just remember:

1) The most effective dose is highly personal. More is not necessarily better. Start at a low dose and titrate up if necessary.

2) Oral melatonin takes 1-2 h to start having effect. Time the intake appropriately.

You do know the Melatonin your body produces comes from consuming L-tryptophan right? Lol...

It's not gonna come close to causing Serotonin Syndrome by itself, unless you take an extremely massive dose. Combining low doses with any Substance that increases Serotonin levels such as Antidepressants, MAOIs, Tramadol, Dextromethorphan, certain Herbs/Supplements. However is another story...

Everyone consumes L-Tryptophan from natural sources. Maybe he's consuming foods rich in L-Tryptophan & by consuming a larger amount in one dose triggered a slight reaction. Once consumed it's converted/broken-down through Biosynthesis into 5-HTP, Serotonin, Melatonin. And a few other Chemicals your body needs, reportedly even miniscule trace amounts of Dimethyltryptamine...

"L-tryptophan is naturally found in animal and plant proteins. L-tryptophan is considered an essential amino acid because our bodies can't make it. It is important for the development and functioning of many organs in the body. After absorbing L-tryptophan from food, our bodies convert it to 5-HTP (5-hyrdoxytryptophan), and then to serotonin, melatonin, and vitamin B6 (nicotinamide). Serotonin is a hormone that transmits signals between nerve cells. It also causes blood vessels to narrow. Changes in the level of serotonin in the brain can alter mood. Melatonin is important for sleep and vitamin B6 is essential for energy metabolism."

I have been taking about 50mg of 5htp, but hadn’t taken any since Friday. I decided this weekend to use Tryptophan instead because I read your not supposed to take 5htp for long term use. I was also under the assumption that Tryptophan was much safer and milder than 5htp, boy that was definitely wrong.
I got very little sleep, kept waking up and still feel extremely anxious. I pity anyone that has the same reaction to this as me and took the recommended dose of three 500mg pills as directed on bottle for sleep.

This old wives' tale is long debunked.
