This is the “My Voting Today Experience Thread”
Already saw two posts today’s that were interesting, to say the least.

One, someone wrote their daughter in CT went in to vote and noticed TWO others listed at their address on the list. The person lives alone....poll workers marked the entries if the people try to come in today and vote they will be stopped. Then said a murmur ran through the workers as they noticed a few other “duplicates” too.

She also commented that there ARMED POLICE there. Maybe expecting some trouble today. Makes me think of the early days in Iraq after the war, when people literally took their lives in their hands for the privilege of participating in the democratic process of voting. How the hell did America slide this far Way from oir basic beliefs?

Anyway, more on topic: I just thought we needed a thread to keep track of what’s going on at polling stations around the country Tell us where you are (you can just put the state if you want to maintain your anonymity),what you saw or experienced and how busy it was.

I voted early to avoid the polls but I expect there will be plenty of folks with “a story of their experiences” today!

Rural Virginia here...no armed police, in and out in less than 10 minutes. A neighbor reported a problem in early voting-it didn't want to take her ballot but they finally got it to go through. Interested to see if anything transpires in the bigger polling places. #maga #wwg1wga

Re: This is the “My Voting Today Experience Thread”
I lost my license last week, went to replace it yesterday and the only dmv around here that does it was closed mondays, so I felt like an ass walking in, but I had a recently expired paper temp license they let me use haha. They were shutting people THE FUCK down who had no ID (and im glad) but I am supposed to be able to vote provisional ballot and they said no, and I politely insisted on a double check etc. until I pulled out that temp. they also acted like other forms of id weren't ok and I already read on my city website there were options. They just said no unless you knew your shit. The folks running it were all hella elderly and probably red too but if that had been a city dem affair it would have been heinous.

STRAIGHT RED TICKET.

Small red town of about 12k midwest, and it was PACKED 7 am. I saw loads of elderly/disabled showing up and as I left I had to wait on a couple in about their mid-40's, husband was basically carrying the wife in who was obviously dying of cancer and in serious pain. I saw the look in her eyes though. Hardcore UFC style voters out there today.

Saw obvious dems too, even at 7 am, kinda weird, especially for this town.

Chesapeake Va, district 21. Over 50 people in line once the doors opened at 6am. In 2016 there was less then 10 in line when the doors opened. I live 2 blocks away from my polling station and telework starting at 6:30am so always go early.

High Turnout.

Re: This is the “My Voting Today Experience Thread”
In Georgia, packed since open. Poll workers upset that they got half the normal number of voting machines.

While there, saw 2 people leave without voting. One was black. She left her boyfriend there to walk home. In the rain with a tornado watch. That guy wanted to vote. Would have offered him a ride but he was gone when we all got done.
The other person was an old man who said he would come back after work.

Wait time 20-30 minutes. I am handicapped and they offered to let me use a handicapped station so my wait time was 5 minutes. I had other family voting so I sat and watched.

I saw several people check democrat ballot. All women, black, or men who set off gaydar.

Saw a family of Hispanic all check Republican ballot. We know them- business owners.

My estimation was 65- repub, 35 democrat. Women were voting dem.more than men.

I watched about 25 minutes. That's just what I saw.
Oh, only 2 young people. Most everyone else over 40. I know one voted Republican.

Here in Arizona I got in line at 5:45, about 20 people already there. Voting went without a hitch. 30-40 people in line when I left. Looks like it's going to be a good turnout today!

I was a bit stumped on how to vote when the independent is better than the republican, but you don't want the dem to win.

Perhaps we need those systems where you get to vote for your first and second fave?

So many voting problems are caused by the voting machines with their inherent potential for fraud. A simple paper ballot with scrutineers from each party to monitor the vote tally combined with photo Voter ID laws would greatly improve the integrity of the election process.

Re: This is the “My Voting Today Experience Thread”
Almost 20 states, including mine, require no voter ID at all. Anyone can claim to be anyone, and the only check is a signature comparison. Needless to say, poll workers are not handwriting experts. In fact, I doubt that any of our poll workers would be so bold as to publicly challenge a signature at all.

Partly for this reason, I vote right after the polls open at 6 a.m.

States that do not require a document to vote include California, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming. You're also not required to have a document in Washington D.C.

Central KY.

9:30 - short line to show ID and sign book. Not as heavy as 2016 but more than a usual midterm. Polling place includes district that has Barr/McGrath (bell weather house race) precincts as well as the Guthrie house race (Guthrie will win easily).

Previous mid-terms had no lines around that time. So turnout felt heavy for a mid-term.

10:30 am. Pouring rain. Parking lot full, but no lines. Big, black Republican poll worker guy at table wearing a USA shirt. Was nice to see! Went right into booth, voted straight RED and hit the vote button.

Still don't like this black box voting. I want a receipt that says my vote was recorded properly. How friggin hard is that?!

At the table, I say my name and one woman looks it up in the book for me to sign. Then the other woman licks her finger and makes SURE to give me ONLY ONE ballot (she could have given me a dozen if I were wearing blue;) ).

So I go to an empty table, fill it in, and then ...
I stand around the scanner a minute or so till I decide to put my own ballot into the scanner.

Considering all the ways that could get hacked, I don't thing voting in NY is secure.

"My voting experience today was confirming. At the sign with a line, 50 feet from the polling door, there stood a middle aged lady offering a Democratic Guide. I politely declined, just "No Thank You". All the way to the door, past the line, she heckled me. "

Re: This is the “My Voting Today Experience Thread”
Thanks for starting this OP. Here's what I had posted earlier. I'm in California.

This year we received a postcard from our official California voter people. It said that we live in a precinct with less than 250 registered voters so we HAD to vote by mail this year. When we look up online for our polling place, we are met with the same information online - no polling place. Our polling place has always been 3 houses away from us (across the street) and we generally handcarry our ballots there, or surrender and vote on premises, just to make sure our vote is counted on the day, and not in a month (or never for all we know). Its nice to see neighbors and chat about the voting turn out, etc. With a city of over 65,000 people I wanted to see a precinct map, still unable to comprehend how there are only 250 registered voters in our precinct.

Well woke up this morning to a street full of parked cars - look across the street and guess what - there is the same old polling place up and running! What in Sam Hell is going on here?

Second issue - my son was issued a vote by mail ballot - he lives about a mile from me - his ballot never showed up so he wrote the voting folks, who suspended his original ballot and reissued another ballot to him. It took 7 business days for this new ballot to arrive - which actually arrived yesterday in his mailbox. The cutoff date to have it in the mail was..... YESTERDAY! If he had been unable to get around he couldn't just mail his ballot back through his mailman - and by the time he got home from work and voted on his ballot it was 5:30 at night - on a whim I drove him out to the post office and luckily they stayed open until 6 pm and we handed that ballot to a post office worker instead of putting in a bin somewhere that might not have been postmarked in time had we done that. He said 'mom I swear this is designed so I can't vote'. I think he's right.

I'll post again after I visit our neighbors who hold the polling place. Honestly right now I'm very pissed off that we were treated differently than other folks. Something up with that!!!

Voted at 8:00 am in a small town just outside of San Antonio. A lot of business people types (this is a well to do community) out voting. The polling staff were very polite & helpful. No one was wearing anything to indicate their political affiliation, but knowing the people in this small town, most are voting conservative. It was a pleasant experience & my two young daughters received “Future Voter” stickers. My oldest daughter enjoyed getting to see the process.
