California here. I live in the high desert, in San Bernardino County. My house is in the rural section of the city, so there aren't a lot of people assigned to my polling place.

I didn't have to wait in line. I walked in and was number 265 to vote at 10am. While I was there about 10 people, mostly older, came in. I voted straigt red. I used a paper ballot. My husband is out of town on business, so he voted by mail and I saw his name under mine on the role with a big line drawn through it. I asked about that and the lady says she marks out everyone on the mail in ballot list, so they don't send in their ballot and then show up and try to vote again. She did say that had he not sent it in in time, he could have turned his mail in ballot at the polling place.

The lady watching the ballot box was crocheting and said they had been busier than usual...it was the first chance she had had all morning to work on her project. LOL

I live in a historically conservative section of California. California has a jungle primary system, so we had two republicans to choose from for congress, so that race didn't really motivate people to turn out. Senate race didn't either, because it is between two Dems. However the governers race and a lot of the stupid propositions on the ballot seem to be motivating people to show up here.
