Simulation Theory - Even if reality is a simulation... why should I care?
The reason the simulation theory matters to me is because it provides answers to spiritual questions that never made full sense to me.

I was first introduced to the simulation theory about 20 years ago when the Matrix came out. To be honest, I was rather confused and disinterested by the entire concept of life being a simulation, and it didn't seem like anything that was worth paying that much attention to.

"My consciousness is so real and I can feel everything, so it's probably just another ridiculous conspiracy theory. It's not like life is actually just a video game."

Even when I heard it was being backed by respected scientists, it occurred to me- even if life is a simulation... who cares? My existence is still the exact same so why is it important to me?

One day, an article on Yahoo caught my eye titled "Elon Musk: There's a 'one in billions' chance our reality is not a simulation"
[link to finance.yahoo.com (secure)]

I started researching WHY it was one in billions- where did that number come from? I was led to the 3 possibilities theory first made public by philosopher Nick Bostrom. I made a post about it.
Thread: The most convincing reasons we might be living in a simulation (Simulation Theory for dummies)

It talks about three scenarios, and how only one of them can be true. I wanted to understand WHY only one of them could be true- why ONLY one of them? It just didn't make sense to me. It took me about 48 hours of really thinking about it, until it clicked, and my world changed.

Accepting the world is a simulation answers all the spiritual questions for me, because as a computer programmer, I understand how code works and how easily infinite programs can be created.

The solar system was something that always really baffled me as a kid. It just goes on for.... forever? So where does it end? I never could fully grasp this and it bothered me.

But today, I think about programming computer games, and how plausible it would be to make an infinite solar system in a virtual world. A solar system that literally goes forever. If you travel in one direction through it, it will just never end. We may not have the technology today, but surely it's possible to create a virtual reality so realistic that it interacts with our five senses and is so life-like, it is indistinguishable from reality.

The way our bodies are able to heal themselves automatically was something that always astonished me as a child. I never understood how our bodies were able to do that. I understood all of our parts do different things, but how do they know what to do?

I also could never quite grasp how everyone in the entire world could look different. We all have the same face parts, how could we possibly all look different?

How does the sun come up every single day the same way all the time? Will it just stop one day?

These are all some of the questions that confused me as a kid, and the questions that religion were supposed to answer for me, and I always tried so hard to believe everything I was being told. But it didn't quite make sense.

I was finally given answers when I accepted that life is a computerized simulation.

We are the non-player characters in computerized virtual reality. That doesn't mean we don't have souls or are not conscious; it merely means we aren't the players in this reality. If you are a player, you know you are a player. This is obviously not proven, but it is what the simulation theory suggests.
Here's a post I made talking about the NPC part:
Thread: Thoughts on the simulation theory

I was always told God was the answer behind everything, and I always tried so hard to truly believe it, but deep down, I knew what the Atheists were saying seemed to make more logical sense.

When the simulation theory clicked for me, I realized that it doesn't contradict any religion at all.

I realized that everything in the Bible probably actually happened.

I started reading the Bible in the perspective of acceptance in the simulation theory, to gather knowledge about how it was all created, and how God was interacting with his very first NPCs. It made for a very interesting read, and it all works.

God is the answer behind everything, and I do believe He created this universe.

Of course this begs the question- if life is a simulation and God was the creator... who created God? I have my own beliefs on how this came to be, but I'll save that for another post.

The reason the simulation theory is worth my time is because it provides me with answers to deep questions I never fully understood.

Thanks for reading.

This hurts my brain. I can't fathom it.
Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

You should join a cult and see if its real or if they will give you secret knowledge.

This game has good graphics but there's too many NPC's seriously slowing down the 'real' character's advancements.

Its the repetitiveness so to speak that keeps reappearing thats sold me on the simulation theory

You've heard stories about how cats are able to find their ways home from impossibly far distances. How is that even possible? Were they memorizing the route very carefully? How can their tiny brains able to find their way back?

It's within their program. I imagine it's something to do with how they brush up against items to mark territory, setting up a beacon. Finding their way home is most likely either visual (like in video games, showing you where to go next), or is olfactory, where the smell becomes clearer and clearer the closer they get to home.

The reality that you experience is wholly simulated, and the advanced computer that is doing so is biological in nature, encased in a hard shell of bone, gathering data via sensory apparatuses, that it then decodes in order to present you with this simulation.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL QUESTION!!

I LOVE this mystery. It's one of my favorites.

But it's a trap

because at the very end, you realize your journey WAS you trying to figure it out

A better question is

why NOT care? You're 'here' aren't you?

If it's a simulation, why not see how beneficial you can make this place??? Why not create positive situations for everyone possible?

Take a look where Lion King was, and where it is now. In 40 years, there will likely be technology that lets you interact with the fictional animal kingdom in a virtual reality
