Important Question About Electric Gates
I have a neighbor who has an electric sliding gate.
For two nights in a row, after they leave, the gate endlessly opens and closes for many hours until the people get home in early morning hours.

Would anyone know what happens if and when that gate finnally goes kapoot? Would the electrical box just stop, or would there be a chance that a short could start?

Why this question is important is we are in fire zone areas, and sparks of any kind can start a fire.

Re: Important Question About Electric Gates
Electric gates are not really meant to operate continuously.

I bet they could build up some heat, depending on it's design.

It's far more likely to break something mechanically first, before starting a fire. It would blow a fuse before causing harm in a properly installed unit.

Hi, thanks for replying. Yeh, kinda wondering about the repercussion of idiots not handling the situation. I wonder if they wil have a high electric bill.

That gate acts like it is not engaging properly to close maybe. Anyway, it is now at a annoying loud squeeling sound each time it opens and closes.

Poor gate. It didn't deserve that kind of abuse.

Re: Important Question About Electric Gates
Do they use a remote to open the gate to leave or is there a square pressure switch on the concrete drive? This square area would be on the inside of the gate.

Re: Important Question About Electric Gates
Just tell your neighbor in case they don't know and let them know your fire concerns.
