In general, DoJ does not offer plea deals unless they get something valuable in return.

Because a known Russian FSB agent definitely wouldn't offer disinformation in exchange for a plea bargain. This is so stupid the DOJ prosecutors handline this case must be on the Russian payroll themselves, just like Obama and Hillary.

Attorneys for Maria Butina and the Justice Department gave more signs Thursday morning they are negotiating a plea deal for the accused Russian spy.

In a conference call with a federal judge in Washington, the attorneys said another upcoming hearing in the case should be canceled and that subpoenas planned for American University, where Butina was a graduate student, may be withdrawn by the end of this week.

Both prosecutors and defense attorneys have previously indicated they were negotiating to end Butina's case.

She should tell them she is the one who pissed on Trump in the Russian hotel, but she was high on coke and doesn't remember much. They will fill in the details for her.

Trump hired these Sessions, Huber,Whitaker and now Barr. The DOJ looks like a worse circus than it was under Obama.

Throw them some bait and see who fights who.

What an incredibly corrupt legal system where innocent people are forced to take deals. I would never do that and with a bullhorn perform citizens arrests on anyone that moved, police, judges, muller, all the creeps and beat them till an inch of their lives with the bullhorn if they so much as made a move towards me, treating them like Jack the Ripper on steroids.

I can't believe this legal system continues and there are so many blind nothing changes.

She appears to be another ford. All her testimony is scripted by doj and the trade is her charges, for her allegations.



These last years unfortunately it looks more like "make deals to accomplish thier agenda". We will see, but to me it stinks of staged.

My understanding is that Butina was one of founders of a Russian group that wants to have similar gun and self defense rights in Russia as in USA. And this group while not heavily persecuted or banned was/is not getting any favors or encouragement from the Russian authorities.

It's possible that she was suspected to be an American agent in Russia ...

I remember having read that the activists of Butina's group were campaigning around the case in which a Russian woman killed a man who tried to rape her. Attempted rape victim was about to get sentenced for man slaughter while "Butinists" argued that in this case the woman had the right to shoot or stab the attacker and the law should recognize more clearly the self defence rights.

She admits, as part of the deal, according to a copy obtained by ABC News that is expected to be filed to the court, that she and an unnamed “U.S. Person 1,” which sources have identified as longtime Republican operative Paul Erickson, with whom she had a multiyear romantic relationship, “agreed and conspired, with a Russian government official (“Russian Official”) and at least one other person, for Butina to act in the United States under the direction of Russian Official without prior notification to the Attorney General.”

Based on the description, the “Russian Official” appears to be Alexander Torshin, deputy governor of the Russian Central Bank and a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Under his direction, the agreement said, she “sought to establish unofficial lines of communication with Americans having power and influence over U.S. politics.”
