Re: Alone By Choice
I received one invitation from friends, but that situation turned into drama-rama, so I declined.

I received one half-ass roundabout invitation to join the family assemblage, via word of mouth from someone who won't even be there. "So-and-so (the hostess) wanted to know if you would be there..." but so-and-so has not even called me yet.

So I decided to do my own thing. Bought a small turkey and some cranberries and stuff. I've never cooked a turkey, and I'm going to be the only one eating it, so this will be an experiment. I am making cranberry relish and cornbread, all from scratch. I have a nice bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau, and I intend to have a lovely dinner all by myself.

I am thankful for the ability to do this all on my own.

I am thankful for the peace and quiet.

I am thankful that I finally have the nerve to say No.

My son and his girlfriend are both working tomorrow, so I'll be getting my much needed solitude in....but I'm still cooking.

Ham, scalloped oysters, candied sweet potatoes, and creamed spinach. All homemade...and I'm gonna love it!

I'll be making the traditional Turkey Day fare this weekend, when the kids have their day off.

Tear up fresh french bread, and line the bottom of your buttered dish until covered.

Finely chop some celery, carrots, onion and parsley.

Place the oysters (save the liquor) on the torn french bread, and evenly disperse the vegies over the that. Salt and pepper the whole thing.

Cover the oysters with more torn french bread.

Mix the oyster liquor with some half and half, and gingerly pour it all over the dish.

Go crazy dotting the top with butter.

Bake until bubbly and browning on the top...350-375 degrees.

I'm sorry I don't have exact amounts of anything, but I was a chef when younger, and I don't follow recipes unless I'm baking. Heh, I used to write recipes, enter contests, and win.

It is sooo good though, give it a try sometime...it's very rich!

ohyeah

Fooking Americans. Now I want stuffing.

What kind of stuffing do you like?
My favorite so far was a crawfish cornbread stuffing a cousin made years ago.

I am not going to make stuffing, though, just some cornbread.

Stove Top stuffing, lol. I'm easy.
 Quoting: TlvmmCpoft

Packages of herbed bread (for stuffing) might be in the bread section

Baste it with melted butter and chicken bouillon added to a cup of water ...

Don't lt it dry out in the oven ... Or cook in a pan and stir
