Homeless veterans or a Wall? What would you choose to help?

I was thinking Mexican women might help them put in gardens around their patios and teach them how to care for them. Maybe bring them chocolate on cool evenings or flan with lots of vanilla and marijuana. Very good for them.

Children might come to play soccer with them in the morning. Maybe old men who fish would bring a catch for them to fry with fried corn and fresh tomatoes.

I was thinking the wall could be made beautiful somehow. With begonias. Zinnias. Bird baths and fish pools.

That choice would be easy.

THE WALL followed with actively enforced immigration laws.

AS for the veterans I am one and I bust my ass to provide for my wife and kids. But I do know of one homeless veteran that used to be a good friend.

And when I found out that my friend was homeless naturally I took him in purchased him some new clothes that he could go on job interviews with and even helped him with the job hunting portion.

When he finally found a job. Instead of working his ass off to improve his lot in life he chose to quit after a couple of days of work due to his back aching and then went back to Dallas as a homeless man. There were no thanks, no paybacks for the money I spent on his clothes or the meals that I provided for him etc...

So the lesson I learned from him is that there are a significant portion of homeless people that are there by choice and every one of them are that way through a series of choices that they made in their life.

So no I think a wall would be a much better use of our money.

Let me tell you about a homeless Vietnam vet I knew...

He had a job,
He had a car,
He was not on drugs,
all in all he was a great guy.

His only reason for being homeless was he gave his life over to Jesus Christ.

During Vietnam after he had been shot several times and was dying from his wounds, he asked Christ to save his life and he promised he would take nothing in return if Jesus Christ did.

He survived his wounds. Our government wanted to give him 100% disability and he refused.

He could have lived the rest of his life on the government dole, but instead he worked as a janitor and slept in his car parked in public parks and with a few exceptions never got into trouble.

I used to repair his car, a 1966 Red Ford Mustang until one day someone stole it while he was working.

It didn't phase him in the least, he still lived in the park and the cops in the area knew him and PROTECTED him.

Then one day on his way to work he was run over by a car.

While he recovered he was hit again destroying the walker he was using and still he asked for nothing.

I let him sleep in my shop while he recovered.

He saved enough money to buy another Mustang not from begging but from working for people who I suspect tipped him very well.

The last time I saw him I Begged him to apply for his disability that the Government said he deserved, and he told me the story about almost dying in Vietnam and asking Jesus to save him.

He had been shot in the head, seriously and had a steel plate in his skull and in the knee.

and never asked the government for anything even when he deserved it.

He was my friend.

Wrong. Most people are coming to US for free stuff. If we let a women and her children in country with no ability to work or speak English what do think US tax payer will be required to do? Liberial will be crying we must help this person we can't let them starve Right? So we have feed and shelter them. What kind of person would leave their fellow citizen suffer under a socialist regime while they escape to save themselves. These people should be fighting to change their country not our country.

Very good you posted a link which quoted data from a 1995 study including ALL immigrant families, not just LATINS, some were refugees, and many ethnicities. It was published to the American people in 1997, but first, Congress and Senators saw it before the 1996 Act was voted on!

Which makes undocumented immigrants unable to collect those benefits!

They made that Act so that they could not collect welfare, food stamps, or any other assistance UNLESS they were refugees!

People sometimes do things so they look good for others, not to be kind, or do something good, they want a return on their "INVESTMENT"

Sure we need to feed house educate and provide medical services for millions non americans.
