Good for you! You rode a highly speculative and volatile bubble, that had an EXTREMELY narrow window to get through with the 1000's that lost everything to hacking along the way...feel good about yourself ?
 Quoting: Rebel4Liberty76

Can you name one specific instance in which bitcoin (or any other crypto for that matter) has ever been hacked?

No? I can't either.

Yeah I feel bad for people too stupid to not understand the value of decentralized versus centralized security/exchanges/modes of storage/etc ... but if they don't understand that simple difference they probably do not have much business in crypto in the first place.

As far as me feeling bad about the money I made??? U kidding? No, I don't feel bad one bit. Soon I start buying en masse ridiculous amounts of tokens I know to be of solid foundation and with a long-term aim and infinite room to growth (Dragonchain, for example)... and the whole ball gets rolling again.

The ones I feel really baad for are the ones who have no understanding of patterns through time. BTC and most cryptos have seen huge gains and huge losses over and over and over.... but why don't u take a look at bitcoin's chart from 2009 on, see if you notice a general trend in terms of usd price. I'll give you a clue, it's hard to miss.
 Quoting: .Rest.

I never said Bitcoin being hacked, I said the BUYERS have been, and I can't count how many stories since it's inception I've read about those who bought, just checked their wallet in the morning to be emptied out like a cat burglar, so please don't be asinine! Who wants to invest in something that can be stolen from you so clandestine like, only HIGH risk takers. Smart investors are going to think twice.
 Quoting: Rebel4Liberty76

We've come a long way since then. Now we know to keep our wallets off of our computers, and to make multiple backups.

See how easy that is?

That I can agree with, but still that's no good reason to BUY IN a bubble. This is no different than Fox Business and CNBC cheerleaders. Go back to real valuations BEFORE hyperbolic blow offs, and perhaps you'll get more buyers to get REAL GROWTH that's true, not speculative.

Blockchains LLC has bought up almost 70,000 acres in Nevada to build their blockchain city. The bluest chip companies on the planet have staked out parcels there. Warren Buffet is the first major investor. While he is busy creating fud to drive prices down, he is scooping up the low prices he created.

For now, their chosen coins are BTC, LTC, ETH, and ETC. They plan to use XRP for a couple of years as a transitional coin.

NASDAQ also has a list of chosen coins, with the above coins and a short list of others.

IBM has a deal with stellar Lumen, XLM.

The Asian markets love their NEO and OMG. Considering the size of those markets, those two coins are good bets.

I don't think most people understand that the current price of bitcoin is kinda irrelevant, read those two articles and what you may begin to understand is that cryptocurrency is the global cashless society that everyone talks and worries about. think of bitcoin and blockchain as the tech that will make borders obsolete and the vision 2030 and agenda 2030 a reality
those two links represent the birth of the new financial markets brought to you by the parent company of the NY Stock exchange let that sink it a minute and then maybe you will see where this will be in 5 to 15 years.

First is the sales pitch.
Then the get-rich-quick promise.
After that, it's pump & dump.

The BTC founders are now at the "pump" stage.
They're paying vendors and laborers worthless BTC to build that city, and those vendors and laborers are gobbling as much BTC-nothings as they can. Their loss when it crashes.

Blockchain City be another Nevada ghost town in 10 years.

Several countries are already using cryptos to get around their fiat problems. Major retailers and banks are building blockchain compatible infrastructure. ATM's are springing up worldwide for the major coins. BTC can be converted to plastic for use at grocery stores, retailers, and some sports arenas, just to name a few for use case.

The OTC markets available stash of coins is so low that some have no BTC to sell. The wealthy are buying it up as fast as the OTC's have it available. That heavy volume isn't reflected in the markets.

Conditions for buying ops are excellent right now. People laughed at investing in TV's, computers, cell phones, Amazon. The same mentality is laughing at digital currencies instead of buying into the future.

If people took a look at what is called the BTC golden chart ( a complete market history chart ), they'd be buying in right now.

Please pardon this quote, but John McAffee said that if it didn't hit $500k by such and such a date he'd consume his male parts.

I STILL have hope HODLing 99 BTC, MOST of which I purchased for less than $7.00.

So IJDGAF as to where is goes. So long as it's above $7 bucks, I'm OK!

WHERE were YOU when BTC was $7???

Re: Bitcoin plummeting heavy in last 2 hours down to 3700..how low will it go?
I love when these pro crypto nuts come in saying companies are starting to adopt it as payment.. The recent starbucks MS thing is a fkn joke.. Every company that has adopted bitcoin as a payment has stopped using it because its too volatile to be used as a currency.. People treat it like an asset, like a stock to be bought and sold.. That is why it will never become mainstream.. The only real viable crypto will be a central bank crypto that none of us own yet, which will be heavily centralized and controlled..

Did no one find it peculiar that bitcoin didn't start rising in price till other crypto's came along and demanded payment in BTC? Did no one find that odd? I did..

Now everyone with half a brain cell is no longer buying those risky no name crypto's that for some reason all have the exact same web designs (thats a major hint btw)
Why would they all look very similar in design? Kind of like the same person or group designed them all right? That is because they were.. That is how they pumped the shit out of bitcoins price.. With terms like "get in now before its too late, look at bitcoin to the moon!" So a bunch of tards bought BTC to buy the alternative coins in hopes they would all rise just like bitcoin.. The sad thing is, none of you numbskulls saw the big picture.. It was those alt coins that pumped up bitcoin lol...

Bitcoin and the alt coins were also designed to draw your money away from real assets.. I.E gold and silver.. While you crypto tards were playing the crypto stock game like you were straight out of wolf of wallstreet, the big banks bought hand over fist real assets.. The entire scheme was designed to keep silver and gold suppressed, as well as land to an extent.. While you guys spent your savings on some digital 1's and 0's, Rothschilds and the elites got rock bottom prices on real wealth...

Look at the timeline of events from 2007/08.. What happen after that housing collapse? Precious metals started climbing and climbing fast.. Silver peaked 45 or so an oz? Then what came along to drive precious metals back down? 2009/10 Bitcoin launched on the unsuspecting gullible tards looking for safe havens to put their fiat into..
And I already explained how they pumped that game up by creating 100s of alt currencies, each one promoted to be the next big thing and 99% of them demanding payment in BTC...

You people were played for fools.. Some of you made some money, good for you.. Just remember someone lost their house for you.. Maybe it was 1000 people who lost everything so you could be a bitcoin millionaire.. I would certainly hate to be you in the next lifetime because you got about another 100 cycles of lives where you are a slave...

GOLD, MINERALS AND METALS are TANGIBLE. It takes inordinate amount of energy and labor to mine TANGIBLES, so why should something that takes so much LABOR be WORTH far less, than something that is ZERO LABOR to mine. Why, just because it's DIGITAL ? Just because of electricity ? It's all psychology that electricity's value to mine Bitcoin. They were being mined much lower, so that's not a reason in my mind.

Crypto is currently built on false-promises and broken dreams.

Go on, ask any one of these crypto SHILLS to show you ACTUAL PROOF of accomplishment.

You will get NONE. You will just get more 'promises' of some obscure utopian future with 'deals & partnerships'.

If crypto is so great, and doesn't need 'the banks', why are they promoting 'partnerships' (lies, let's see the DOCUMENTS, NOT BULLSHIT PRESS RELEASES) with banks, and corporations like 'Blockchain LLC' who invested in ETHEREUM which is down over 92% - and are still pimping out ridiculous false hope to retards that would believe it.

Yea, corporations invested alright, BEFORE you morons did, and they helped pump the price up, only to DUMP it on you HODLERS.

You think smart people are in business because they're altruistic and envision some utopian future with the destruction of their own bread & butter banks?

Lol. If you believe this shit, I have a bridge to sell you.

They helped pump it up, and dumped that shit like a hot potato to leave YOU morons holding the bags.

Before eating dinner in a moment, I'll leave you with this food for thought. Back in '09, a respected former poster here came on and said "hey guys, there is this thing called BTC and it's .003 each to get in. It's a thing called SHA 256, and here is how it works. Get in now. You won't regret it.
That was BTC.

Re: Bitcoin plummeting heavy in last 2 hours down to 3700..how low will it go?

I bought bitcoin in 2012, and have researched it since. I've watched it go from a neat tool for CERTAIN NICHE markets into this greedy pyramid scheme built on lies & nonsense.

'Blockchain' is NOT the answer to everything, you fucking fool. Distributed databases have been around FOR YEARS without requiring a POW token that is traded on public markets FOR PROFIT.

You're not buying STOCK, if you can't tell the difference you're as dumb as you look.

Well everyone that loves crypto, is totally oblivious to the plan to put the issuance of currency back in hands of the US treasury. The treasury note is going to be the replacement, not crypto. In case you haven't been following, the US is returning to constitutional law. Buffet is a GLOBALIST, and I'm sure once this goes down, he will LOSE BIG.
 Quoting: Rebel4Liberty76

Buffet is an investor who knows where to put his money before the general public has a clue. His politics are irrelevant.

Whether or not the USD becomes a treasury note is irrelevant.

Cryptos are cross border payments whether peer to peer or commercial. No fiat conversions or middlemen necessary.
 Quoting: Moon&Stars

Listen, I know older investors that are not seeing the same thing, nerds and gamers do and prognosticating it as best thing since sliced bread, so you're FANTASIZING about mainline adoption that far off. The mainline investor is NOT with this. It's a fact, otherwise this would be a different thread title.
 Quoting: Rebel4Liberty76

I guess I'm what you call an older investor. And not fantasizing in the least.

 Quoting: Moon&Stars

That's about the same as the pizza story, which I ALMOST bought in, but it wasn't too long after that story came out heard about the massive hacking so that was further deterrence. I say congrats to those who made it through the narrow window with the security during the time , but most didn't have that luck, lost what they put in, and well WHO WANTS TO THROW AWAY MONEY ? Akin to winning the lottery, but how are those odds ? See the point ?

Leading online payment company Stripe stopped accepting Bitcoin payments in late January. The company attributed its decision to the volatility in Bitcoin's price. "Transaction confirmation times have risen substantially; this, in turn, has led to an increase in the failure rate of transactions denominated in fiat currencies," Tom Karlo wrote in a blog post. "For a regular Bitcoin transaction, a fee of tens of U.S. dollars is common, making Bitcoin transactions about as expensive as bank wires," he added.

Steam halted Bitcoin transactions for similar reasons in December, citing difficulty calculating transaction costs in addition to the currency's overall volatility. Valve engineer Kurtis Chinn wrote in a blog post that because the value of Bitcoin is only guaranteed for a certain period of time, the amount of Bitcoin needed to purchase a game could change before Steam was able to update the game's price, potentially losing the company money.

Steam and Stripe has not released how many of their transactions were in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin transaction fees are currently under a dollar per transaction, but peaked at $37 in late December. BitPay, the transaction platform that many companies, including WatchBox and Namecheap use to accept currencies, instituted a $5 minimum transaction fee that same month and warned users that "Many invoice payments under $100 may still be uneconomical for bitcoin purchasers due to high bitcoin network fees."

Until Bitcoin is shown to be viable as a currency, rather than just an asset, it will be very difficult for these companies to comprise anything more than a vocal minority. Nevertheless, in a world where interest in Bitcoin is growing, and it's impossible to predict what will come next, a small number of Bitcoin sales can serve as a large show of support for cryptocurrency on principle, and as a low-risk, but potentially high-reward gamble.

Re: Bitcoin plummeting heavy in last 2 hours down to 3700..how low will it go?
The only reason bitcoin even broke $600 the SECOND time (after the first Mt.Gox WILLY BOT that PUMPED the price to $1200 through FRAUD), was because of Bitfinex & Tether printing FUNNY MONEY out of thin air and wash trading on Tether Exchanges.

History is LITERALLY repeating itself, only this time they managed to create a BIGGER bubble through massive fraud because it managed to go on longer.

The bigger the bubble, the bigger the pop.

So yes, bittards, history DOES REPEAT, only not in the way YOU'RE HOPING.

If people took a look at what is called the BTC golden chart ( a complete market history chart ), they'd be buying in right now.

When an investment goes from $19K to $3K within a year, people are understandably hesitant to throw their hard earned money at it.

I hope you understand.

That's my whole point as well, there's nothing realistic about that kind of price or trading ranges.
