Neurogenesis and lion's mane
I found out about this special 'smart' mushroom through one of Paul Stamets many intriguing lectures. Lion's mane has been through many clinical studies, that indicate it has some amazing potentials, that range from restoring the myelin sheath, to boosting immunity. I just made my first purchase, and I'm wondering if anybody here has any experience with it, personally.

Someone here has posted other portions of the show with him being a guest of Rogan, perhaps he was on there more than once.

I found his information most intriguing.

I wish I knew who posted the other videos, but it was months ago.

I remember seeing one post on here about Paul refusing to talk about portabello mushrooms. That's the post that made me aware of who Paul Stamets is. I believe he has been on Rogan's podcast one time. I found his lectures much more informative though.

Here's the full Rogan podcast.

I took it for a few months, it seemed to help with immunity but not much more than vitamin C. All supplements effect everyone differently so who knows, it might help others more profoundly.

I may have posted this interview. Not sure. But Stamets, while a bit of nut in some ways, is THE MAN on mushrooms. He knows so very, very much.

I want to try and grow Lion's Mane. With early onset Alzheimer's and so many people feeling brain fog, it's something that can help.

Plus, it is supposed to taste almost like lobster. And since it's clean, I want to check it out.

Re: Neurogenesis and lion's mane
Mushrooms seem to be an overlooked food/nutritive/supplementary benefit, that is finally creeping towards the forefront. With Stamets and others' research, I think we are finally getting a big piece of the puzzle set in, that fills a huge space of the unknown, in regards to human health and curative options. Much more research and funding is needed, but there is a solid launchpad existing now, that can propel us to greater discoveries.

Re: Neurogenesis and lion's mane
I am currently doing a dual extract of a large Lion's Mane mushroom that I found earlier in the month. The research is very profound. It is the only substance known to regenerate nerve tissue. Clinical studies actually show that intentionally damaged brain of rats regenerate. Reviews by people with Alzheimer's, MS, Parkinson's and many other neuro conditions are promising. I can't wait to give it a try.

For the person who said it didn't work for them. My review of the research indicates that for the neuro-regenerative properties, the chemicals have to be extracted with a high percentage of alcohol. The water soluble properties do regenerate GI tract ailments and cancers. Many of the commercially available products do not do a dual extract (time/expense). If you are specifically looking for neuro benefits, make sure the product you buy has been dualey extracted.

The dual extraction process involves soaking the mushroom in a very high proof alcohol for several weeks and then straining it and simmering it for several hours and then combining them in a way that leaves you with at least a 25 percent alcohol solution.

I was taking Host Defense capsules, so you are saying that taking the liquid extract must be taken to get full benefits? Does this apply to other mushrooms such as Reishi? Thanks in advance.

Figured I'd give lion's mane a shot. Visited my local zoo last week . . . still recovering from my injuries.

The liquid alcohol extract contains the polysacharides which have an effect on nerve growth factor (NGF). Several of the top medicinal value mushrooms require dual extraction, however, some others may be damaged from a dual process. I guess it is best to look up each. Reishi does require dual extraction from what I have read.

Thanks for that info! I really have no idea about the processes you're talking about. I made my first purchase today from Stamets's own website. I'm hoping and assuming, that his lab and methods of extraction, are one of the better ones out there. Im being an armchair advocate at the moment, with no results to vouch for. Can you speak to his product or would recommend something else, as I've seen other competitors on the market. Thanks again though. You've just opened up a new avenue of consideration. Stamets is such a prominent figure in mycology, that I'm wondering, who are the other great scientific researchers working behind the scenes?

I've been taking liquid extract for several months, a dropper full in a little water.

Do notice sharper recall.
Clearer thinking leads to getting more accomplished.

Going to try just a drop or two under the tongue to see if it has the same effect.
Who does your thinking?

Has anyone ever tried growing these things ?

I 've seen growing kits for Lion's Mane online

also, does eating the mushroom itself have the same benefits as the extract ?

My 84 year old grandmother regressed into some type of advanced dreamy-like dementia (because of the shutdown.) My brother has been her caretaker while she is deteriorating.

My aunt told him to get Lion's Mane mushroom supplements and start giving them to her. After a week of her taking it, we all have noticed a major difference in her mental state and awareness. The last time we visited, she had SO much more energy than the last many times we visited. And was talking a lot and asking questions and seemed a lot more alert than usual. She was even almost glowing! The supplement helped her immensely.

I took it for a year because I have MS. It helped with my color vision and brain fog. It's supposed to repair myelin, so I took it for this reason.

I took Host defense. I would take it again, but I am not sure if it will interact with my other medicines.

Took it for a few months.

To be honest, it was quite pricey and didn't notice any discernable difference in how I felt.

Chalked it up to it being "THE" superfood of the moment.

Problem with supplements is that you dont really know if you are actually taking what it claims to be.

Most private lab investigations find that there is a barely noticeable amount of active ingredients in supplements.

Well generally studies with stuff like this usually give the lab animals doses that are 10 - 100x higher than what people can find in stores.

Example:

PQQ: Reversed aging in mice and rats. Dose you can find at the store 10mg-20mg. The rats/mice were given a human equivalent of 80mg-120mg per day for a human equivalent of 2 years.

NMN/Niacinamide: Reversed aging in mice and rats. Dose you can find at the store 80mg-500mg. The rats/mice were given a human equivalent of 5000mg per day for a human equivalent of 3 years.
