I was shopping yesterday evening for a few items for the weekend meals and saw a beef tenderloin that I had to have for Saturday night's dinner.

Then I saw the price and almost did a download in my drawers.

I wanted to buy something for dinner, not pay for the cow's healthcare costs.

Even with a $57 discount it was like two weeks worth of food in cost; I just couldn't buy it.

How expensive will our food become?

Tenderloin equals filet mignon in the beef world...not a bad price and not something I’d buy unless it was a very special occasion.

Excuse me while I do some research...

Yep, we started used the Ketchup spelling after Heinz and others started manufacturing it to the masses and they came up with the new spelling. Catsup, was the original spelling, and was a name borrowed from a pickled fishy sauce condiment highly regarded in China...

Yeah? Strange hey?

No quotes needed

ketchup (n.)
1711, said to be from Malay (Austronesian) kichap, but probably not original to Malay. It might have come from Chinese koechiap "brine of fish," which, if authentic, perhaps is from the Chinese community in northern Vietnam [Terrien de Lacouperie, in "Babylonian and Oriental Record," 1889, 1890]. Catsup (earlier catchup, 1680s) is a failed attempt at Englishing, still in use in U.S., influenced by cat and sup.

Originally a fish sauce made from various plant juices, the word came to be used in English for a wide variety of spiced gravies and sauces; "Apicius Redivivus; or, the Cook's Oracle," by William Kitchiner, London, 1817, devotes 7 pages to recipes for different types of catsup (his book has 1 spelling of ketchup, 72 of catsup), including walnut, mushroom, oyster, cockle and mussel, tomata, white (vinegar and anchovies figure in it), cucumber, and pudding catsup. Chambers's Encyclopaedia (1870) lists mushroom, walnut, and tomato ketchup as "the three most esteemed kinds." Tomato ketchup emerged c. 1800 in U.S. and predominated from early 20c. END

So it kind of looks like cats is more correct....

I prolly should try with all the tomatoes I have. it is going to be ridiculous if I don't kill them all before they actually finish growing. this bush is taller and as wide then me. it is huge. I have never seen such a thing and it looks like it is not the beef steak I asked for. I prolly have a huge bush of tomatoes not good for anything but making sauce or other red runny condiment. rof I will never use that word again. myy whole life I spelled it correctly and now a trademark is making decisions for the whole world. I, for one, will have no part in it!
