Quoting: Nobody Special 4 Now Now granted it's going to come slowly, the natural disasters will just keep getting worse and worse. More flooding every year, Kind of like what's happening, so where will you migrate to? It won't be a glacier period, just a time when winter temps drop below zero, summer temps will be cooler, and the farmers will have to move to growing different crops - those which will germinate at lower temps and ripen sooner. I live in ND. Our homes were built to endure the cold, Texas etc. not so much. You're much safer where it is normal procedure every winter. Quoting: SerenaSeesAll Yup. People act like the glaciers are coming, the glaciers are coming! I'd hate to be in Florida. Well, actually, I'd hate to be there anytime, any temp! *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles. That is a law of the universe. *** |

And all of the extra energy that would be needed to heat these homes.. Can't be done. |

One had dramatic temp drops in a 3 year period! As to where to move, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, et al, will grow much larger as the sea level drops. That's right! Ocean levels can drop up to 400 feet as the water becomes locked in the ice caps and glaciers. Not only that, but the coastal states can maintain temperate climates for agriculture. |

Exactly.. even up here in Canada the west coast is rather mild in the winter, above freezing most of the time - rather wet, but that's a small price to pay, living in a temperate rainforest Good point about the Ocean levels.. Islands could become mountain/hill tops along the coast, in theory. |

If I moved, it would be to southern OK or somewhere in TX. Maaybe southern AR. If any northern women wanted to move south, just let me know. Always looking for good companionship. As the ice and cold descend from the North, the populations will migrate southward. That is why I will be staying where I am. Will still be able to grow most of what I grow now. We currently have 2 growing seasons, as plants don't produce much from mid July till mid August (except okra, black eye peas, eggplant and such), so we are planting the late crop at that time. If there is another mini ice age, our growing season will be more similar to that of, perhaps, Ohio. That said, the earlier poster who pointed out that southern houses are not as well insulated, is correct. We would need to hang heavy drapes, or other things, to hold in heat during the colder months. (because the earth re-sets it's axis) So, re-assess what n/s/e/w is (it might have changed slightly or not so slightly. It could be, in this scenario, that so much shit would hit the fan that just surviving to the end of the day would be hard. Never mind moving to another part of the world. Learning to live in a frozen environ MIGHT be the ziq when everyone else is zagging? Or going to the new south has its benefits. “A grower of turnips or shaper of clay, a commot Farmer or a king--every man is a hero if he strives more for others than for himself alone.” Lloyd Alexander, The Castle of Llyr |
