Yes, they were real. There was a nonchalant item on an afternoon talk show on the radio - my housemate heard it. The host of the show (or somebody; I didn't hear it, but I assume it was host), related that there were many, many boxes being loaded on a DOJ plane. Then a day or two later, another plane arrived for another plateful of boxes. My housemate heard it. Doesn't mean it happened, but it was announced on air.
