Well, without makeup she WAS pretty plain-looking. Dig up a few LIFE Magazine shots of her sans cosmetics and the difference is like night/day. This just proves how fully-contrived her public image was... and why she was so screwed up trying to live up to it!

Do you happen to know what the Suprapubic surgical scar was from?

I’ve read appendix, tubal pregnancy, c-section

I know she had a gall bladder scar too.

I'd always heard Appendix, but anything else would be just speculation on my part; to my knowledge her complete medical history has never been published... if it even still exists! What we do know is really more anecdotal than evidential and that only adds to the entire mystique.

I can tell you that surgical procedures in the 50's-60's were far more invasive than they are today and even an appendix removal would leave a good 3-4" scar. A C-section was a major operation and left far more scarring; a Gall-Bladder surgery would likewise leave a 4-6" scar - all depending [of course] upon the skill of the surgeon!

I can also tell you that on the professional autograph market [I'm a minor collector myself] copies of her chest X-Rays have recently made the rounds - at the usual overinflated prices that anything Monroe fetches. She's one of those tragic cases where the person was literally worth more dead than alive.

Her whole head and top portion of sheet was covered in blood. Absolute Murder!

Howe dare they lie in such obvious ways and call murder suicide.

Her death, and Elvis's ongoing issues, were used to call attention to the increasing amount of barbiturate abuse.
Another highly popular but now mostly forgotten drug category like benzos and opiates.

Did anyone take notice to how this statement was composed? Take another look? This take it to another level really? Their blood? Well who's blood was there while she was lying facedown? In addition to her own?

Typo?

I guess you weren't around in '62 when MM died [I was], because there wasn't a whole lot of chatter about her "suicide" when she did.

First of all there weren't nearly as many tabloids around back then with their screaming headlines in every supermarket. The CONFIDENTIAL magazine -the Granddaddy and about the worst- covered her exit but even they moved on after a couple of sleazy front pages. Major mags like LIFE and LOOK only did passing tributes as did newspapers and TV networks. People were just as shallow back then as they are now and moved on with their lives pretty quickly!

And, when those mags did their articles her method of death wasn't stressed... it was still considered pretty tacky to talk about suicide in public, even if it was of a trashy Hollywood star - and that's what alot of Mrs & Mrs. Middle America considered Marilyn Monroe.

Secondly, there was her "type" - sure, she was a sex symbol that made horny teenaged boys pant like hounds in heat, but most "decent" people avoided her movies like the plague. Church ladies still called her kind of woman a "Slut" or a "bottle-Blonde" - that kind of thing. And, it was only in barber shops or greasy gas stations that you saw her famous pinups, because there was still an underlying prudishness surrounding sex in the U.S. mainstream society.

You have to remember that PLAYBOY magazine itself was still only 9 years old in 1962 [MM was actually the mag's first centerfold in '53] and it had a rep that wasn't exactly sterling, despite the quality of the writing [and it WAS top-notch!] This was also long before the likes of PENTHOUSE [1969], OUI [1972] and HUSTLER [1974] hit American newsstands. BTW: OUI was actually first published in the U.S. by... PLAYBOY!

So: the great permissive Sexual Revolution didn't start to kick in until the late '60's-early 70's; and even it was an offshoot of the hippie movement and not cinematic sex goddesses. By the 70's, the likes of Jayne Mansfield [who died in '67], Diana Dors, Anita Ekberg and Brigitte Bardot were already fading from the national screens with both Ekberg and Bardot only finding work in their native countries [although Ekberg did snag a couple of cheesy Bob Hope movies].

Sorry, it was only after MM died that her legacy really took off, but it's still one of the most lucrative, durable postmortem careers ever.

But my point is that -at the time of her death- Marilyn Monroe's closeted drug abuse [because that wasn't even revealed until several years after] was not common knowledge and exploited like it would be today by the likes of TMZ.

As far as Elvis is concerned, I don't particularly recall him being used as a poster-child for drug rehab clinics, either. The NATIONAL ENQUIRER rode his dead carcass all the way to the grave and beyond [after all: he really is still alive, you know!] but certainly didn't publish any cautionary tales to avoid his kind of final curtain.

Exactly was GSB said.
You never asked how old anyone was, or how much money they made, and you did what mom and dad said without question.
To talk about sex, or drug use, was never even thought about back then.

Irrelevant because the picture itself is NOT HER. Look at the damned BED! Hers did NOT have a wooden spindle frame, but instead the mattress just sat on top of a box springs on a low support. This was actually called a "Hollywood-style" bed and was very comomn in the early 60's.

Are you people really so stupid that the obvious has to be pointed out to you repeatedly? Just because some Jackass posted some evocative, bloody pics you automatically believe it hook-line-sinker as being Gospel. Christ! How do you even get through the day?

DUDE: get this and get it straight - your pics of a body on a blood-stained bed are NOT of Marilyn Monroe. PERIOD.
