After the distraction shot, around same time, he was done in at close range. You don't have to be a genius to figure that out. |

The prison sent it back to me unopened and some guard or other prison official even took the time to write a snarky little message on the outside of the envelope! That was about 25 years ago and I still refuse to accept that Ray pulled that trigger, especially after seeing a picture of the tiny little bathroom window he was supposed to have fired the 30.06 [not a small gun by any means!] through. NO WAY he could've made that shot any more than Oswald did in Dallas. King bled to death but it wasn't so much a headshot as it was a facial wound. The slug ripped his right cheek pretty badly [look closely at pics of King in his casket and you can see how the mortician botched the reconstruction - the surface is uneven and the edges of the wax filler are obvious. When you know what to look for it jumps right out at you] then angled down, shattered his jawbone and sliced his Jugular vein so it was pretty messy. That balcony took ALOT of cleaning! In any event, Ray wasn't known for being a marksman and it would've been a very tough shot, even for a pro. Interestingly, J. Edgar Hoover's remaining restricted FBI files on this case are still sealed... until 2027. Wanna' bet they won't be of much use when they are made public?
