Couple of questions? How long do they lay eggs for? What do you do with them after they stop laying? Soup?
Reason I ask- Im in the burbs of Chicago- we can have up to 7 hens if yard is fenced! No roosters though.. Im tempted to f*ck with TPTB and get 7 guinea hens. Ya think roosters are loud??
Quoting: Harleyevo Free range chickens are as tough as a boot. Seriously, you need a pressure cooker. I had one in the crockpot cooking for 3 days. Too tough to eat. If I have to cull, I just bury them in the garden. We gave up on trying to eat them. I have silkies so they are still laying daily at almost 10 yrs. my other hens stopped long ago, they were close to 8 yrs when they passed. But I didn’t do anything when they stopped laying. They gave me eggs for years, they earned their retirement imo. But everyone’s circumstances are different.
