Coast Guard tells employees going without pay because of shutdown to have a GARAGE SALE or offer to do some babysitting
Not happy to post this but have to be unbiased

Tip sheet compiled by the Coast Guard Support Program outlined money-saving and money-making suggestions for civilian employees
•Furloughed staff were advised to house-sit, walk pets, give music lessons, make money off a hobby, or become a mystery shopper
•Tip sheet was removed from Coast Guard website Wednesday
•Coast Guard is funded by the Department of Homeland Security, which is affected by shutdown, now in its 19th day

Thousands of civilians working for the US Coast Guard who are being affected by the ongoing government shutdown were advised to find supplemental income during their furlough by holding a garage sale, baby sitting or dog-walking.

Others money-making ideas listed on a tip sheet compiled by the Coast Guard Support Program included selling 'unwanted, large ticket items through the newspaper'; house-sitting; turning a hobby into income; offering music lessons, and lastly, becoming a mystery shopper.

'Retailer are desperate to check how their in-store customer service is and will employee you to shop and rate their service,' the tip sheet promised.

Re: Coast Guard tells employees going without pay because of shutdown to have a GARAGE SALE or offer to do some babysitting
For two days now, the Washington Post have had a photo of President Trump and Melania online below the headline:

"Coast Guard families told they can have garage sales to cope with government shutdown"

The Washington Post wants their readers to believe President Trump told them that! Damn disgusting media! If you read the small print below the photo, it reads:
President Trump, with first lady Melania Trump, greets and hands out sandwiches to members of the U.S. Coast Guard, at the Lake Worth Inlet Station, on Thanksgiving 2017 in Riviera Beach, Fla.

Now I see that the Washington Post changed the main photo to show President Trump in the Oval Office. They are STILL making their readers think HE made that statement! And their stupid readers will believe it!

Furloughed employees can file for unemployment benefits.

Granted, WHEN they receive back pay, they will likely need to reimburse the unemployment drawn.

So, out of 800,000 people no body can get Unemployment, NObosy has any savings, no body has friends or relatives for a loan..

I guarantee 1000/s of families and single people are enjoying family time and on vacations ect.. Go to vegas or any of the million indian casinos in the country and I guarantee some of the same people are finding money to gamble..

I loked up in 2010 the average fed employee earned 120 grand a year and contractors 65 grand a year and the top 1000 fed employees earn a minimum 216 grand.

They can draw unemployment, but that will probably not be enough as unemployment compensation is only a fraction of what they were making...

TO ALL GOVT EMPLOYEES THAT ARE WHINING: Please tell me you've used the same bank fr years or a decade? Because I have a banking relationship with our banker and as a banker they'd know that your deposits come in from the govt, they'd know how much you'd generally spend monthly, they'd know exactly who your mortgage lender is, they'd see your auto insurance being debited, you car pymt, etc. They'd also know that you get a huge check when the govt reopens. Apply for a short term loan like the smart govt workers did the day they found out (December 20th). The bank puts stipulations in the short term note that is tied to that lump sum pymt you get when govt reopens.

IT IS THAT SIMPLE. You work for the govt, you know this happens, you must make provisions yourself. Be smart, work smart. PERIOD!

You guys should pay attention to your banks. Banks are offering 0% APR to government workers. They look at the last direct deposits and offer a loan up to 6k, and will deposit a check every payday equal to the previous direct deposit. Once government funds kick back in, they take it back.
Anyone that thinks that 800k workers are out of pay, for let’s say the next six months, is a fool.
If this was you, would you take the free loan? Of course.

Fuck this bullshit media/dem spin.

I've been involved or in the Coast Guard since 1971, straight out, no breaks. I, and many I know, Have at least 1 credit card (not debit card) with about $20 due on it. I run it it up during shutdowns with regular expenses and bills. Usually doesn't last long. When the back pay comes in you pay it off back to $20 owed. I eat any interest as that's the cost of doing business in this job. It's not much over a month or 2.

Excuse me but I've been salaried exempt since 1971. I put in 8-12 hours of work every day and get paid for 8. Sometimes weekends and nights are on my time but no pay (salaried exempt). There are those of us type "A" that work our butts off doing the work of 3 typical civilians. That's quite a few federal workers. There are some sluffs but they eventually get bulldozed over by the workload and they quit. You better be able to work as much and as hard as I do. Why yes, as a supervisor I am a prick, thank you for asking.

So I was looking at places in Alexandria now I gotta find a place in oakton. Don’t really want to live in Reston.

Where in the Hell is this coming from? I heard that special funding was made available [tacked onto some appropriations bill] so the Coast Guard WOULD be paid right along with the rest of the military.

I seriously have never understood the big-assed deal they make over a federal shutdown. U.S. Marshals are still on the job and we still get our mail. Only NON-ESSENTIAL employees are effected, like the ones that work at the snack bars in the Smithsonian and other national museums/parks that are closed. Museums/parks that have very little tourist traffic this time of year, anyway. And: since those employees WILL be paid... WHY DOES THE MSM MAKE SUCH A NOISE ABOUT IT?

BTW: I'm retired USPS and we all used to growse that we never got to stay home in the winter when everybody else was furloughed!

Big Banks and Fed credit unions are offering NO interest and low interest loans for those Fed workers affected by the shutdown. Saw it broadcast on news network. Fed workers get backpay so that would be the way to get through the shutdown. Go get your no or low interest loan. Pay it back, along with loan money you didn't spend, when you get back to work.
