Change Your Furnace Filter

OK...but when your furnace craps out when it's 20 below zero...don't say I didn't warn ya! :)

I try to change it out every 6 months even though it says once a year on the filter. Just wish the filters didn't cost so much.

I put a new one in at the beginning of the summer and leave it all summer, I just don't use the AC that much.

But when it gets to 10 or zero or below...I'll change it every month to 6 weeks.

I change mine when actually needed by examination.

nobody was ever hurt with a new filter.

Fact

When I replaced my AC and electric furnace late this last summer, I put in a propane furnace and one of those newer style, 4 inch thick filter trays.

The 4 inch filters only have to be replaced every 9 months to a year, depending on how dusty your environment is.

I've been having a tough time finding the cheap ones for 2 years.

I told my friend when he moved in to change his filter

Three weeks later I visited

Asked if he changed it

Sheepishly said "We checked it last night - because you were coming - it was DISGUSTING! Probably was never changed by the last lady -
her hair and dog and cat hair clogging up the whole thing !"

And I said "You breathed that for three weeks ..."

MOST houses when I check - (I'm a REALTOR among other things)
look like they haven't been changed for 10 years!

I don't get the fancy allergy filters - I get the cheap ones and change every 30 days for under $2 - it's like $8 for a 4 pack and then I know it's clean air
