Hang in there, KTee. If I go silent and you learn of a big EQ and tsunami here, y'all keep this thread going, okay? Thanks.

I will be ok. Still going thru a bit of a funk over it.. but time will heal this wound. I have more pressing issues to think about and act on.

I really like Dutchsinse alot. Been watching him for quite awhile. He knows his stuff.
I pray for your safety up in that neck of the woods for it really is a volatile place. Kudos to you for being able to live there.
Earthquakes fear me too much to even think of living there although I know how beautiful it must be.

As long as there are still comms up, then this thread will survive~

ML and prayer

Hang in there, sweet one - you will get over this period and be above it soon.

Others will help keep the thread going - long as one person is committed. We need to help all we can. I think more will be looking for us before long as news develops into actions, bad ones.

ML for you as well. Hang on and hang in!

Quickly Everyone hurry to the Comm-n S-ns- show and watch "Telecom heads told to prepare . . ."

Critical information!!

 Quoting: Pooka

Well now, wouldn't that be something if this event happened at the end of the 12 day window? It would put a damper on the Black Friday sales and retailers are already desperate because of a shorter holiday season.

I need to go freshen my hosts file just in case they mess with DNS.

I had hoped for some time that potus would set martial law prior to the beginning of the year, in order to stop all the nonsense going on, cease the suit against him, arrest many long-waiting evil-doers, etc, and wondered if he would wait to do it til after the shopping season to give retailers their best shot.

Now I have no idea what may take place. Was there an attempt to poison him? Will there be more attempts to take him out? I honestly don't know what's going on and I'm mightily uncomfortable. None of it looks good and I've not seen or read about any good thing currently in the works - only bad. I just advise topping off preps and gas tanks and watching carefully.

I wish I would had known about this during last growing season, but will implement it this coming up year.

"Milk is a research-proven fungicide and soft bodied insecticide - insects have no pancreas to digest the milk sugars. Dr. Wagner Bettiol, a Brazilian research scientist, found that milk was effective in the treatment of powdery mildew on zucchini. His research was subsequently replicated by New Zealand melon growers who tested it against the leading commercially available chemical fungicide and found that milk out-performed everything else. To their surprise, they also found that the milk worked as a foliar fertilizer, producing larger and tastier melons than the control group."

Wifey has been bugging me to buy a milk cow. I have goats in my pasture now, but I could keep up to 5 cows there.

Have been studying the Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery. It is one of the BEST books I ever read. Took me a while, but I finished it yesterday.

It gives you the basics of gardening, preserving food, caring for livestock, etc.

Cows are really incredible for survival especially if you have an acre or so. My Grandma rented a pasture in the Great Depression and hiked 12 miles/day to milk the cow. It provided a lot of food for her family.

BTW, a family of 8 lived on about $15/week including renting their house.

When I lived in Germany, I rented an apartment in an old house in the little village of Hohenstaufen. Old, like 500 years old.

The owner kept a cow in the basement. There was a tiny window that they shoveled hay into and manure out of. There was a trough in the stone floor to collect liquid waste, but they recycled every bit into the fields.

The cow had to be led up the stone steps once a year or so to be bred. Had to be boring for the cow living in a small stone room.

People in Northern Europe used to live primarily on bread from grains, milk and cheese, and root vegetables. You can live on those even in a cold, rainy climate.

Excess milk goes to the pigs and chickens. Nothing is wasted.

Now, I find I can use it as a fungicide.

I learns something new every day.

@Pooka, I used CPLowkey's guidance on saving the page, but I hope no EMP/CME happens, as i am still trying to figure out a safe setup to protect the digital info. However, I did write the formula down in my notebook of useful information.

@darth, A cow in the basement?!! we all know that would go over great here in the "land of the free"..lol... but interesting none the less.

I like the root vegetables idea, as they tend to be more shade tolerant and with the GSM season coming upon us, it might be a saving grace.
----------------------------------------------

I also keep thinking about what we are headed into with the GSM. It seems that in the past it was extreme weather, rain poured and then drought. cold and other extremes mixed in. so my thoughts are to set up the growing land as if it is drought land....it is two fold as it would handle the heavy rains and also the droughts better.

sorry if i am rambling, but the only other option i am seeing is growing indoors, but what if the power grid is fried or not reliable? I am just trying to figure out a way that could be implemented by the many. As We might be the ones that are chosen to teach others, even though they won't hear of it now.

A lot of cultures actually kept livestock on the first floor or in the basement of dwellings because it helped heat the place. Also more secure from thieves.

Ref veggies, I have seen turnips growing even after it snowed a few times here in Texas. When I lived in Germany the Summer temps hovered around 50-60F with a lot of rain. Sunny days were rare.

But they grew potatoes, turnips, rutabagas, beets, cabbages, etc. without a problem. Root veggies provide a LOT of calories/acre too.

Ref saving info after EMP, I recommend:

1. Books and written notes from videos you have watched online.

2. M disc storage. Like a CD but supposedly good for 1000 years. Keep an old computer in the EMP-proof metal trash can wrapped in cardboard and aluminum foil. Will need solar or generator to access your files.

When I upgrade computers I don't throw away my old ones. They are stored in a metal drum in the barn.

BTW, one of my old ideas for emergency TP: I sign up for catalogs and trade magazines which I throw into another steel drum in the barn. US Snail delivers. Can also use for fire starters or keeping the wood stove stoked.

I once knew a guy who lived in a cabin in New Brunswick out in the bush. He reviewed a few books and got the reviews published.

He got so many free books from publishers after that, he heated his cabin with them.

Oh i hadn't thought about it, but it makes sense about them providing heat. Joel stalin @ polyface farms uses a similar concept that heats his cow barns in the winter time from the breakdown of manure and hay.

I am so glad that I love cabbage, beets and potatoes, at least...not so sure on the others.

Love your ideas and will be implementing them. But the burning books would be left for a true EOTWAWKI- SHTF- iam going to die if i don't situation hf

@Pooka, I hope you are feeling less pain. hf

In IAF latest video he said that we have to implement growing without electrical...or something like that... He did give some resources to check out.

concerning building the soil
He mentioned Chris Trump, which has a 750acre farm in Hawaii that uses KNF (Korea natural farming) Chris's Youtube videos gives a good overview of it. There is also JADAM which might be easier to implement, not sure, still researching it.

This website [link to www.unconventionalfarmsupply.com (secure)] would probably be good to back up, because the original content creator has abandon the internet, it seem, but someone else has tried to keep the information available to the public. Hope you are recovered soon Pooka!! I had no idea!!!

Here is an easy tip.

If you cannot afford to keep a large amount of cash in your vehicle for a SHTF event, carry a checkbook!

In the early hours of a grid down, no one will be able take M/C or VISA, but they should still be accepting cash, and if you are in the suburbs, they will accept checks.

For this to work you'll have to keep a list of stores that do not convert checks into electronic fund transfers. I can only think of a couple in my local area that actually keeps the check for deposit.

If the EFT system goes down there's a chance that they will accept a check but they might decline and say "Cash only". It really depends on the downtime policy of each store.

Excellent reminder - thank you!

Finally did my turkey today - getting it out of the oven and lifting it clear up onto the counter was the very worst, but prayed my way through every hard thing today, and the Most High was gracious to get me through each step!

Potatoes just finished cooking - will mash shortly, and then it's dinner time - the last Thanksgiving, in my view, and I am sorry that is so. Another time when I very strongly wish to be incorrect. Would love for next year's holiday to be the best ever!

Oops - forgot - still have to make gravy. Would be a loss of a dinner without gravy from the yummy turkey pan!

This morning I realized that when my left shoulder, the one that has been "bad" for some years, went out, it did so much as the right one is currently doing. If that is the case, I am now done with doing most normal tasks for myself and will need help with many, such as combing the back of my hair - cannot reach it with either hand, a lot of dressing, virtually all work - really don't want this to be the case but have to face what may be right here. Takes two hands to brush my teeth, now. Ridiculous - right?

But there are worse things. Always there are worse things.

Would love for next year's holiday to be the best ever!
*Pooka*

I myself find that I am always saying.. maybe next year will be better and I pray for it to be so. As of late these wishes have not been answered in the way I would of hoped.. that said..

I find myself very thankful for all that I have and been able to save. The life of my family is of utmost importance and it has dwindled now to only a core of 3 ( household ) and perhaps a handful out of the house.
I am dearly thankful for my life as it is and the hospital / doctors who blessed me with a life saving surgery. I have never been the same since then however I am alive and able to do most things again.

I have shoulder neck issues as well and I know full well the limitations that they will put on oneself. I refuse to take pain medication albeit I am a cornerstone in the Aleve dept. :P

I am thankful to be able to discuss such things here on GLP and the individuality adds to the pleasure of meeting so many peeps.

We shall prevail the coming storm by staying strong, praying strong and helping each other with our wisdom.

Thank you Lord for another year and hope there are many more~

Pooka, DMSO is sold at feed and seed stores. It may help your shoulder and is relatively cheap. It is not sold as a pain reliever, but years ago we used to use it on horses , then it made it into health food stores . It worked so well and couldn’t be regulated so it’s not sold in health food stores anymore that I know of. Only lightly dab on the area with a Cottenball. It’s transdermal and goes directly to joint and muscle. Works really well on arthritis.
Again don’t use a lot or rub in. Just dab it on. Small bottle is all you need , like $5 for it. Liquid or gel, it’s the same.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor

You have such a lovely attitude! We do keep having to adjust to our "new normals" both physically and in relationships and in life in general. The more we adapt the better we are at the process, so the next "new normal" is easier to step into.

We are blessed, indeed, to be able to discuss any subject of importance here. And if it feels a little too important, we can move it to PM instead. There are some nasty people here, who will attack for health issues, anything, but they are removable and bannable - two possibilities I enjoy. LOL

Struggling with pain and limited movement is darned tiresome but you know - we are still moving! And there is a chance that movement will return to normal at some point!

I no longer expect the next holiday or next birthday to be better - they are okay, now that I am accustomed to the "normal" which is being alone, and since I've been ill, no longer having a social life. I enjoy the company of my dogs immensely, and don't actually require more.

Wish I had a "helper" right now, but good ones are almost impossible to find. There are tasks I just cannot do at the moment, which is frustrating. I don't mean even vacuuming and like that - which certainly need doing but can wait. I'd like squash soup - really wanted that, and I cannot get the lid off the container. It's made in such a way that nothing I do will remove it. Silly, but frustrating. Cannot comb the center of the back of my hair. Again, not huge but very frustrating. These things will ease I'll be able to do them again soon, no doubt. Just felt like complaining for a minute. LOL

Hugs for you, KTee = you are such a joy! So glad you are here with us!

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor

That's an excellent thought! We no longer have a feed store here, but I may take a brief trip early next week and could probably find some then.

Thank you very much for the great reminder!
