Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
Just read this and not allowed to say where. Many here have asked about insulin replacement - look for this - on your own responsibility:

"Search for 'Brazilian insulin bee tea'. Basically take 10 bees, freeze them to kill, then crush with a mortar and pestle. Into this while still hot dunk a tea bag as in making tea, right? Do this before meals. Many people in Brazil use this instead of insulin. Only one study done compared to artificial insulin, but results were that people's sugar levels were more stable with bee tea than insulin"

During Texas freeze this spring 2021, here is what helped greatly. GLASS LINED THERMOS as when electricity would go on for a few hours we would boil water & put in thermos. IRON SKILLET to use in gas fireplace with gas logs.

EVERYTHING is transported by fuel.

While others are concerned about topping off their gas tanks...I'm thinking about extra food, TP, (which I already have)...and extra ciggies (which I picked up today).

No fuel shortages or gas lines in my state but it could happen any day. Fuel will eventually be diverted to the harder hit areas.

My daughter and military husband got transferred to Texas from Hawaii early this year. Daughter flew into LAX with their animals. My wife drove down to L.A. to pick them up.

They then proceeded to drive to Houston in the midst of that ice storm. They arrived to the house my daughter had rented, but the water pipes were broken and the power was out.

The first thing my wife did was hit Walmart and buy a charcoal grill and a few bags of charcoal. Everyone needs to have a wood/charcoal grill as a basic means to heat food and water. People are completely lost when the power is out and the electric range or microwave oven doesn't work.

You can cook anything over fire. It has been proven for millennia. Those that live in all-electric houses need to think outside the box and be prepared for any eventuality.

What do you think of this prep idea?

A high quality (non-electric) balance scale with a set of counter weights.

You could conduct any transaction down to a 10th of a gram...whether you were weighing gold shavings or rice.

You could even do the weighing for other peoples transactions (for a fee).

What say you? Yea or nay?

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
I was thinking...what if power and water were shut off right now BOOM! What do I do? What is my game plan? I don't want to be caught off guard & stand there like a dufus with my thumb up my arse. So I started writing down a list...a few items are...

- Chain the fence gate closed
- Set up the rocket stove for use (outdoor cooking)
- Set up the commode (crapper)
- Turn on the radio (battery operated) and listen for some news
- Etc etc etc...

So that got me thinking about my garden. What would really help my food supply for RIGHT NOW?

My biggest prep item is dry pasta...I'm sure I have well over 60 pounds of it...So I started thinking pasta salad.

I decided to skip the corn or sunflowers this year and go with anything good in a pasta salad.

I already have well established chives & garlic...
- Thyme
- Basil
- Cilantro
- tobasco peppers
- cherry tomatoes
- Brandy wine tomatoes

This also got me adding to my shopping list...
- More trash bags for the crapper
- Olives and artichokes for the pasta salad (small jars because of no electricity).
- Salt & seasonings

Just thought I would share this because I feel we're getting close.

Be like santa! Make a list...check it twice :D

My update for current situation has improved slightly. Hubby and I were able to start the chain link fence on our own.
It's a challenge but we have the supplies to complete it.

Still have options, I personally prefer hydrogen peroxide over bleach. coffee4

One can use pool bleach liquid10%-12.5% sodium hypochlorite versus laundry bleach at 5%-6% sodium hypochlorite.

Pool bleach can still be found at Lowe's & Home Depot.

As back up, simply buy a few 3" pucks of chlorine for the pool and make your own bleach. Or just buy one puck from a neighbor that has a swimming pool.

Liquid bleach is mainly water.

Scrap the trash bags for the 'commode' and build something proper and start using it right now, is a much better option. DOn't be afraid of your shit!

I have a stainless steel pot with a glass lid. I wondered if it would act as a solar oven all by itself.

I put a half inch of water & an oven thermometer in it & set it in the sun.

The highest temp it reached was 150...but hey...if I need to boil water I'll use alot less fuel if the water starts at 150 as opposed to room temperature.

I'll bet I could reach a higher temp if I set the pot on some black cloth while out in the sun.

as well as raised garden beds out of cinder blocks

easy and cheap just a wee bit heavy... but if you've a man around, or you are a man, not so bad

again, tons of vids online on how to do it. normally i hate google, but for expediency you'll find the best info there

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
I bought a small 4-pack of sweet-100 (cherry) tomato plants. The poor little guys were so root bound they needed to be planted ASAP.

I stuck them in a tray of water to soak the roots while I turned some of the soil in my garden (getting a late start due to weather). Once I had that done I dug 4 holes for them & threw 2 handsfull of POTTING SOIL into the hole and added water. Then put the tomato plants in...then more potting soil all around the root ball...watered again...then top soil from my garden on top...then watered again.

The loose potting soil should give those roots some breathing space.

I hope they make it with the extra love & attention I gave them!

A little factoid...145 F for 30 minutes...

Pasteurization of milk, widely practiced in several countries, notably the United States, requires temperatures of about 63 °C (145 °F) maintained for 30 minutes or, alternatively, heating to a higher temperature, 72 °C (162 °F), and holding for 15 seconds (and yet higher temperatures for shorter periods of time).

I was cogitating about this just incase I couldn't bring water to the boiling point (212 F) for any reason.
