I think it has to be soaked - didn't the old sailors soak it in their coffee or tea? A person could dunk this in their soup, or soak it there, or even in beans - as any grain with beans makes a complete protein. Thanks very much for this! listen to full video she tells ya, but yes you are right Some of the notes under the video are excellent - I like the idea of making them very small, like oyster crackers, so they can be dropped into hot soup or beans or whatever, to soften and to add bulk and filling capacity to whatever one is eating. Another suggestion is adding cinnamon. I'd like those, made small, soaked in tea with honey. I wanted to bring up honey - we didn't discuss it in the other thread, either. Honey is worth far more than its weight in gold. Not the junk in the cute little bear or from the grocery store. Real honey. Wildflower honey, clover honey, etc. It can be used externally to heal wounds, even. It has tremendous nutritional quality, great flavor, goes with almost anything. This will soothe a sore throat, even. I just went to my personal library and pulled out "Simple Foods for the Pack". It is about food for backpacking. Example: Sesame Chia Crackers 2 cups whole wheat flour 1/2 cup sesame seeds 2 Tbsp chia seeds tsp salt 1/3 cup sesame oil 1/2 cup water Mix, roll out on waxed paper to 1/4" thick Cut into crackers Bake 375F for 20 minutes Store in glass jar, e.g., canning jar, with O2 absorbers There is a wealth of info. Recommend this book and Putting Food By for starters. Try the used book sellers on the internet for cheap. Of course, if you search, there are tons of free recipes online. Try some. cheers Darth, so happy you are here! Love the cracker recipe - chia and sesame seeds so very healthy - what a great light-weight snack to carry. And imagine with some cheese! Yum! Bread can be fried or made by flatting bread and putting it in a skillet and cooking it, have a good iron skillet. The iron skillet is two fold blessing it cook well if season correctly and it adds a good amount of iron in your diet. Oatmeal can keep in air tight containers, so will dry milk, yes it works not that great a taste, it good and it can be gotten use to, a little coco and sugar put back can be a treat for children, a dash of vanilla favoring with coco mix of sugar water and coco and a dash of vanilla favoring works well. Relax plan, know how to start, learn the fundamental of planting, it important to have some tools, you can do it by less digging if you learn how. You have to have something to put in the ground. One other thing, you can make meals and freeze dry them and put them in dark vacuum seal containers or bags with fresh absorbent packs. You can find a way to do the freeze drying in a five gallon bucket on Youtube or could, dry ice is used a science female was showing how it works. You make your meals cooked meals, the water is what the goes away. So, have water the main thing is water if you do not have water you die. You can live without much food for a while, you die soon without water. With this done you can put them in vacuum sealed packets and have meals that only needs a water and heat for less cooking time. It also takes less water for cooking it. Saves time, water and feeds the people who going to need it fast. Here is one good item most forget, scissors, needles and thread. I have more than enough sewing machine which can be converted to foot machine with some items that for long period. Also that wired thing from the book I have that tells how to make batteries and get electricity, get wire, and some type of insulators. If you can find this book for yourself now, there are people who can be asked who will know how to make it, the electricians. It can be direct current or batteries. Or a converter to ac. The book is Radio Theory and Operation By Mary Texanna Loomis it in the book along with radio, the electricity was something another person had told me about, this old book had the way to do this. It could say peoples lives. Think keeping people with electricity would save a lot of people. If I could scan it I would put it up, I do not know if it is protected I doubt it. Printed in 1925, they use this system to call from wireless radio, and this to power the batteries for the electric car stations, they had recharge stations. It is a type of antenna, just and antenna, with the directions on how to do it. Back then they said, be careful of shock, of course it something easier to understand it also free energy. I know there were books of this for sale not long ago so looking for it can, if you fine it buy it. Find a electrician to understand it. People do not have to die from lack of there medicine. A good chemist can do formulas first find the old chemicals or what they make insulin with. What I am saying is find out how to make it, someone to make it or learn how. We when I was young had apothecaries and they had chemistry back ground as part of there training, so they made it. This is something important to it for your love ones. Also with this other about electricity is how to store it. You have a way to turn direct current into AC current it a convertor, easy to find and it DC to Ac current. Find it. DEFCON 4 User ID: 75189898 United States 01/24/2019 08:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I love disaster prep threads. It's impossible to know it all and there are so many people here with various levels of training, education, and/or experience that a person who has never thought of prepping before can come in and get a great overview in a single place. Here are a couple of contributions, which I have probably posted elsewhere before, but it can't hurt to repeat them: 1: Disaster Psychology is just as important as food and water. It is important to recognize the emotional pitfalls of surviving a large-scale disaster so they do not overwhelm you. As one example, people tend to focus on that they *don't* have, and that increases their stress level exponentially. Stressed out people tend to make bad decisions. Getting oneself into the mindset of categorizing what they *do* have and re-purposing items to function in alternate or multiple ways is much healthier. Make sure that some of your prepping research goes into the psychology of disasters. Plenty of free information out there on that topic. 2: People often overlook long-term solutions to human waste. Even those on a well/septic system mmight eventually come to a point where they cannot use it as designed. One of the simplest and cheapest methods of controlling human waste is cat litter and plastic buckets. You will need: - A minimum of two 5-gallon plastic buckets with resealable lids - An inexpensive toilet seat that can sit on top of those buckets - As many bags of cat litter as you can afford to purchase and store When the time comes, line the bottom of an empty 5-gallon bucket with about 2" of cat litter. Place the toilet seat on the bucket and handle your business. When finished, pour in enough cat litter to completely cover the waste and seal the bucket's lid on tightly. When full, seal the bucket and move outdoors if possible or in a remote corner indoors if unable to go outside (this is where having more than two buckets is handy). If able to go outside, empty the bucket's contents into a two to three foot deep hole in the ground and cover. Do this as far away from your shelter area and water sources as possible. Then just rotate buckets. Dirt or sand will substitute for cat litter when you run out, but they won't have some of the odor control that litter does. If unable to go outdoors for a lengthy period of time, such as a radioactive fallout situation, having a dozen or so empty buckets ready to go is not a bad idea. You will eventually run out of toilet paper. Learn the alternative methods of cleaning up after yourself. Great thread! I'll be following it with interest. "Collapse is a process, not an event." - Unknown "It's in your nature to destroy yourselves." - Terminator 2 "Risking my life for people I hate for reasons I don't understand." - Riff-Raff Deputy Director - DEFCON Warning System |

We address power outage, heating and cooking methods, first aid, we run disaster scenarios to see if we know what to do. This is probably the only prepping thread a person would need right now, whether long-time prepper here to share, or newbie prepper here to learn. Welcome!! Join us and learn and teach and enjoy!! This thread might be a good place for me to put down this idea, OP. While I was sitting on the toilet about ninety minutes ago as of this post I was reading through a Diabetes booklet I have. I was also thinking about the inevitable collapse of American society, and all of Humanity shortly after the collapse of America. I realized that insulin has a definite shelf life. I actually thought the stuff could remain in cold storage for decades and room temperature for months straight. Nope... turns out the stuff is only viable in the best of circumstances for normally less than a month's time. Only the "best of the best" insulin lasts up to close to eighty days in the best of circumstances. This means once the power grid is out, probably for months or years straight, Type 1 Diabetes are going to definitely die within about a month's time. Unless if there are a number of them who happen to have operational generators with the proper maintenance and fuel to last for years or longer and manage to secure a vast amount of insulin all Type 1 Diabetics will die within about a month's time. Type 2 Diabetics on the other hand will have a chance to eat healthier depending on where they're surviving and being willing to eat healthy foodstuff. I could of sworn I heard of a plant in another GLP thread that is a natural form of insulin. If this is true this would be absolutely essential for Type 1 Diabetics to grow as much and often as possible during the later Christian Apocalypse Events. This is the plant; It is sold here alive, or dried to be used for tea. [link to www.ticotimes.net] Awesome! I mentioned Jerusalem Artichokes previously, they do NOT have insulin, but inulin. It helps suppress insulin issues. Pretend the water is out for a day, then live that day using your stored water having to heat it to wash dishes etc. etc. take note of how much you need to drink wash and flush. Turn off the heat For a day. I guarantee you next day you will be running to the thrift store to buy long johns, gloves, wool socks, oversized warm house coats, down filled house shoes, Hot water bottles, wool blankets etc. and as a sidenote I had all of those things except the longjohns but they weren’t warm enough I rebought warmer clothing because of last winter it was so cold and we had no heat. I also bought wool blankets because the acrylic blanket I had along with a down comforter was absolutely not warm enough. And then I learned that getting into a freezing bed at night you do warm up eventually but your feet are so freaking cold you feel cold and uncomfortable so that’s when I bought the hot water bottles to put by my feet in my bed. Now I’m toasty warm at night with the heat off! Pretend your electricity is out Etc. etc. It is absolutely the best way to prep! Take good notes of the things you need then as you come across them at thrift stores or garage sales begin purchasing and stock piling things. |

Add a few drops of bleach or a coil of copper wire to keep it germ free. *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles. That is a law of the universe. *** |

Quoting: Denholm you need to practice and then practice more I personally noticed a lot when I practiced to bug out for a week last september I thought I had thought out so many things and was going to be just fine but a month before I noticed I missed a lot and started to panic and made some urgent purchases which I do not regret but it was the start I needed You will run into water and food problems right away so make sure you have food you like first, try it! You need to make sure you are going eat it On water, you have think of multiple ways and not just rely on one way to have water and be able to carry all these things This is my goal this year when I go back to camp in september I want a better food situation and also some better tools Spot on! Take good notes of the things you need then as you come across them at thrift stores or garage sales begin purchasing and stock piling sticks for fuel. My first little trip will be take my pack, Biolite, coffee press and chair (I have a bad back) and walk the dog, pick up some sticks. Grab some type of food for me and the dog and have coffee and some lunch. I think the ratio was 2-4 drops per quart of water. But then YOU HAVE TO WAIT ATLEAST 30 MINUTES!!! The bleach needs time to kill any bacteria! Very important point!
