Paper armor!

You can fold a piece of paper in half 7 times...that will give it 128 layers.

It's not fool-proof but it's usually effective at stopping a bullet or a blade (or an arrow).

If you can make a suit out of those paper squares you'll have as good armor as most of the samurai used in battle!

You are correct.

I NEVER keep a loaded gun in my home...I now have a shotgun & a .22 loaded & ready to fire (yes the safety is on).

There were protests only 4 blocks from my house friday night...atleast they were peaceful, but who knows how long that will last?

Four blocks? We understood you are rural! Why are you still there? Do you have a bug-out location?

Recommend sleeping daytime and maintaining OpSec and SA at night. That's what I've been doing, but I think mostly for practice, as there have been no untoward events in my little area other than covid-19.

Regarding the missing license plates - I read last night or this morning of carloads of bad actors entering cities in vehicles with missing license plates. No doubt VINs had been scrubbed as well. Likely to be a whole rash of stolen vehicles reported tomorrow.

Imagine anyone trying to tell us this is all spontaneous - not planned well ahead and paid for by a pretty penny indeed.

Hi Pooka,

thank you so much for posting this very valuable information.

I must have come to GLP IN 2006, not exactly sure what brought me here, or what was happening at the time, but there were loads of survival and prepping threads.

I started to listen, cleared out a cupboard and started to buy extra stuff to put away, needless to stay war never broke out, and the economy never collapsed, and so it's easy to believe everything is fine.

Thank you for reminding me we are never safe, everything as always been very fragile, and it's scary how quick things go down, no use trying to sort anything when the shops are empty.

I've been watching too many experts on economics saying the banking system is is trouble, and the money printing will collapse, so i've been drawing out and buying food.

Stay safe on there everyone, and may god bless you hf

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
People, have you been following the weekend's events? This is moving us in a new and ugly direction. God help anybody living in a city.

By now it should be apparent to all that we have to be and remain prepped, because flak is coming from every direction. Our own citizens and civil employees turning against even the quietest and most home-body among us - did you see the thread about people standing on their own porch being shot by rubber bullets because they didn't run off their own porch into their home the moment ordered to by LE? This is not acceptable.

China and Russia each have their own designs on this country, and covid-19 is far from over, but should flare crazily about two weeks after all the rioting without wearing protection.

The fact that this is an election year alone would be enough to put us all in serious "prepared and quiet" mode, yet that hasn't even come into effect yet.

Somebody please green pin this thread to the front page on Monday - more people need to be aware of the issues of preparedness if they want to survive and prosper, or at least to survive in the immediate future, and beyond, and prosper again at a later time.
 Quoting: Pooka

I watched the events of the last few days with keen interest and have been ruminating about likely scenarios that develop out of this chaos.

The first is the obvious - we are in for the mother of all lockdowns. Given how contagious Covid-19 is we will probably see a surge of cases in about two weeks. And in a week after that, another surge in the people who these rioters brought the 'rona home to (most likely the more vulnerable population). An already stressed supply chain will fail.

The second is more hypothetical - There is obviously an organized element at work here and if they can raise Cain in 130 cities at once then they are capable of much more. Our interstate system has numerous chokepoints that could be 'operated' against. Once again, our supply chain would be thrown into chaos.

And there's no reason why both scenarios couldn't play out. The opposing forces have had time to expose enough of their cadre to Covid-19 and recover to build a force that could operate while disease ravages the US.

I'd like to mention a thread that got me thinking about all of this:

Thread: June - November, gangs will be going house to house in the burbs searching out prepper stockpiles

Just got back from the store with some more additions to the supplies.

Rural? Not me Pooka. I'm about a mile away from minneapolis (as the crow flies). I'm in a suburb that touches Minneapolis.

Nope, no bug out location...But I do have 2 brothers & a sister that live about 4 or 5 miles further away from Mpls than I do. So you could say I have 3 bugout locations. And my nephew lives one block away if it came down to battle.

I knew a BBS sysop (Big Brother Sam, if anyone remembers) from Miami back in '92 when Hurricane Andrew went through. Took a week for the BBS to get back online and boy did he have stories! He spent four nights on the roof of his home with a rifle and many magazines. Never got into a firefight but he heard them all around him.

It's a bigger storm coming, friend.

Still, you make a go of it where you are. I'm in the outer range of a tank of gas from Chicago so I'm mindful that we might get some traffic through here in an event. There's an awful lot of country folk between here and there that will help sort out the trouble makers. They would have to make a decision to head up the road that I'm on so hopefully it's because they have a destination in mind, a checkpoint would go a long ways to help that out.

My guess is that most people leaving Chicago would head south in a grid down scenario, especially in the face of winter. After a couple of months, the people with the resources to flee would have likely done so. The ones left in the cities would have to adjust to some new normal. What that looks like is anyone's guess. There might be some kind of government left, some level of utility services. I rather like Octavia Butler's "Parable of the Sower" as an example of what it might look like. Local communities forming walled enclaves against the endemic gangs. Some people have chickens, another has a television that everyone comes to watch for special occasions. All of this takes place against the backdrop of the US landing a manned mission on Mars.

Anyways, I'm rambling.

Heard a radio commercial (PSA) saying please obide by the curfew so the nat'l guard can catch the people that want to harm us...then I got home & the city had left me a phone message...Please obey the curfew tonight! Both of these are FIRSTS!

Sounds like they're expecting trouble tonight!

I chained the gate to my fence closed...but it wouldn't take that much to jump it...it's 4 or 5 feet tall.

I wont take my garbage or recycling out until morning...why give them bottles to throw?

Locked & loaded & ready for anything! hf

If your door has a window in it...remove the key to the deadbolt!

I have 1 door where it would be easy to punch out a small pane of glass & turn the key in the lock & open the door.

Not so when the key has been removed banana2

Godspeed MC! I've got my shotty ready and a clip for my rifle laying next to my bed. And there ain't no expected trouble in the immediate vicinity. I can only imagine what you are feeling in this time and I would offer the prayer of clarity in your thought should something happen.

I'm feeling good! But I think you're right...I'll say a payer for protection and clarity so I make all the proper decisions should something happen.

Not really "worried" though...I kinda find this interesting (to say the least).

Gonna go make sure I know where all my fire extinguishers are.

I'm kinda kicking myself for not picking up lawn sprinklers at the rummage sales last year (to put on the roof). There aren't any rummage sales this year. Might have to pay <grumble> retail.

Your comment about finding this interesting reminds me of a line that Kevin Durand delivers in "The Strain" - "I dunno, but I'm excited to find out!"

Went to the Dollar Tree on Monday, dear wife wanted a set of measuring spoons to make a poison ivy concoction to kill the vines around us. Wound up getting a scrub brush and some earphones as well.

No rubbing alcohol but the rest of the store seemed well stocked. Might be a good resource for those that are getting ready. I'm gonna go back and see if they have canned hams, I've got a great recipe for curried lentls and ham.

Got a BOGO free deal at a regional big box store on multivitamins, should help fill the gaps in my food storage. Got a deal on ibuprofen and naproxen sodium pain relievers too.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
I'm very relieved to find some of you here talking. Thank God you are well. Cyberpunk, always wise and thoughtful. MC, always good about taking advice.

I've been reading this morning the pinned threads here and intelligence from another source and shaking my head. What has happened to my country? This is not what it ever was or ever was meant to be.

When I had to move from beach to small town to suburbs I unloaded whatever it is I have, because it's not needed in suburbia or town outskirts as it is in the country. Well, that's how it was until now. Now it's time to reload. I hate it and didn't expect it, yet the possibility has always been there or I would have gotten rid of it.

I honestly do not expect trouble in my little out-of-the-way area, and therein lies the biggest issue - we cannot guess in advance where "they" will choose to operate. I think not one of us can be assured we will not be in a chosen section. This is no time to hang out feeling invulnerable. I suggest all regulars check in daily here for a while, if you wouldn't mind.

When we began this thread, I would not have considered it possible that we were prepping for this horrible situation - how did we get here? I know how, but still cannot grasp it, any more than I grasp why loads and loads of bricks have been delivered all over the country and rioters are being told where to find them as they get off the buses.

Would someone care to green pin us today or tomorrow morning? Already getting late on the east coast and might not get enough traction today before pins are removed. So many are just now waking up, that we need to give them advice and help them stop feeling powerless. They still have a little time for prepping, at least for a bit of food.

All the possibilities that now exist for stopping resupply of any and all retail outlets should be taken seriously, and fast. Cyberpunk, glad you went and did the thing today. I am going out shortly, though I have not gone out in some time [comorbidities with covid-19] other than the pharmacy drive-up window. I'm going to pick up a few things, but am mostly ready - sheltering in place has been more pleasure than pain.

Thank you all for being here. Let's continue to check in and to support each other as we get through this new phase of insanity and danger.
