When I was a child, I had a Nanny that was from Trinad. If she didn't have insulin available she would cut a stalk of celery from the inner part about 4 inches long, wash it well, place it in a small glass or jar, fill the glass about 1/3 full with water that had been boiled and let to cool, place it in the refrigerator un-covered. After 3-4 days she says the liquid becomes natural insulin. Take orally.

Edit: I am not, and do not know anyone who is insulin dependent but always looking for anything that will provide someone with a longer, better life in the face of total collapse. As am I. I've lost count of how many in this thread have asked for help as diabetics or with diabetic loved ones. Go through the last few pages (4-5) of the foodie thread and see how Louis from Richmond has figured out a few things which really help him with his diabetes.
