I have a bottle of water purification tablets I bought from the sporting goods store.

They are made of Chlorine Dioxide.

Just sayin'... (coughcoughcovidcough).

Guys, I know you don't know me from Adam, but PLEASE don't swallow those tabs! They will tear up your insides and you'll have to go to the ER for treatment.

PLEASE, PLEASE don't take them. It's a scam that will do some serious damage.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

You mean just eaten, as some idiot will do, or do you mean not to use for water purification?

I shopped Target’s online grocery aisle yesterday. I’m going to send my mom a bunch of Good and Gather pantry items for her birthday. Some of it is organic, the prices are reasonable and packaging is nice.

Hi Pooka. Don't eat/swallow them. They are safe for water purification purposes, as far as I know. People seem to be using them in different ways in the hope that it will cure covid. I don't believe it will. What it will do, if used incorrectly, is make you very ill.

If misuse of these tablets is being advised on a thread here, admin really needs to be informed. If you don't care to do so, please tell me the thread or paste to me a link, in PM if you prefer, and I will do it. Of all things, when we as preppers are trying to save lives with the best advice we can muster, to have some so-called "prepper" advising something that will make recipients very ill is insanity and completely controverts our work!

SHTF and you will be happy to have big dogs. Little ones can only warn you, and typically will at every opportunity, even if there is nothing to be warned about.

I'd never have a husky for a shtf, shepherd yah, any of the guarding dogs.. kangal, pyrenees, komondor, etc., but they have their own drawbacks in a non shtf environment. A g shepherd dog is a happy medium.

You really need to grow a puppy with livestock for them to be safe for the livestock.

Even labrador retrievers can have a mean streak. I saw my neighbor's lab attack one of its own pack mates, a rather irritating beagle, and shake it to death. Blood everywhere. Most people think labs are so friendly; not that one.

Bump for folks that are getting Stimulus deposits....

Augason Farms #10 cans

Powered Butter

Powdered Eggs

Powdered Cheese

Banana chips

Freezer dried strawberries

I know not everyone is an Amazon fan.... but some of us don’t have other options....

Point is these all have 10 year shelf lives and will get you through the rebuilding time, if or when it happens to you.... I hope it never does....

But inflation ain’t going to help either.

Protein will become very expensive as grain prices go up. This is very high quality meat:
[link to keystonemeats.com (secure)]

If you belong to Costco, they still sometimes have the Kirkland brand roast beef which is a handy size and has usually seemed like a reasonable price. Their canned chicken is pretty good, too. Walmart also has canned beef and canned chicken at good prices.

If you know how to home can, and are able to find enough jars and lids, buy beef roast on sale and ask the butcher to cut into stew size pieces, and can some up.

Eggs bought on sale can be kept frozen raw if you scramble them first. I scramble 6 at a time, put in a zip lock baggie with all the air squished out, and lay flat in the freezer.

I didn’t bring those up because for most on a budget the time is past for things like Keystone....

I bought at per can $5 ... they are now $10 or more or some retailers unavailable.

But the stuff that I found on Amazon was still within reason for the long term shelf life. And the powdered butter means a lot when you need comfort food in a fucked world.

You are right though....I just hope that most folks finished the canned meat before now. We did chicken, spam, beef, ham, tuna, and salmon.

I am going to practice making breaded fried chicken patties to give us some more junk food options.

Right now is the time to only keep adding things that are still in their reasonable price range. And stable. Don’t forget to start planning a root cellar....because when the electricity goes.... so does the shelf stable stuff that still has a reasonable temperature range.

In an emergency, you could through it in a plastic and bury it deep enough for temp control while you work on a better solution.

Get canning lids and rings now as they run low every year but might be more in demand this year with all the victory gardens.

Only buy and can what you and your family will eat.

Protein powder mix is great for every bob as it only requires water and is light weight.

Meat is being "phazed out" due to cow farts - so we'd better have plenty put away. Think of every bit and type that you like, find it in cans or dehydrated, and stock up bigly. And quickly

Radio scanners.

A 300 channel Bearcat handheld, a 500 channel RS handheld, a 1000 channel RS handheld and a 400 channel RS desktop.

There are still more in the box I haven't dug out, including a Yaesu HT and an Alinco. Also have a Baofeng HT.

It is always good to know what is going on around you. With multiple radios going, you don't miss much.

It’s so fucking cold in Iowa.... the only thing saving my plants.... I was too lazy to plant yet.

Freeze warning tonight. And probably the next three nights. Then nice two days. Then fucking cold again.

The food issues are about to get an extra kick.

Back when I hunted a lot, I made venison jerky, a favorite snack for my kids.

I cut into strips, soaked for an hour in a solution with soy sauce, liquid smoke, and spices.

Then I dehydrated in a food dryer.

You can do the same with lean beef. I would not try this with pork. Poultry only if you slaughter it yourself in a clean environment.

I have not made it, but you can make jerky into pemmican with beef tallow, berries, etc. It's supposed to keep for years.

BTW, on my deer lease I became pretty good at skinning a dressing deer and hogs. A few guys would let me do the work for them while they drank beer. I would usually get a quarter of the deer for my trouble.

One guy only wanted antlers. He gave me his entire deer a few times.

If there are places near you where people fish or hunt, you could offer to clean, skin, etc. for a portion of the meat. Organic, free range, the BEST!

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
I thought I would share my new idea and see what help/comments the participants on here could offer.

I am considering buying several acres up above 7,000 feet in the mountains of southern New Mexico.

My thought is to set up a storage rental facility for preppers. Of course, I will rent to non-preppers as well.

People could cache supplies in a space ranging from the size of a closet to a 40 foot container. They could store food, water, seeds, equipment, or whatever to use in case of disaster.

We could also offer space outside to store motorhomes, trailers, or other vehicles.

That way, a person living on a modest income in a city apartment or home could have a BOL with like-minded folk ready in case of dire emergency.

We would offer on-site security with a good fence and sturdy storage units. The site will have a good well to supply water as well as a septic system for RV dumps.

We would have a separate storage area for fuels and other flammables since those are dangerous to keep in storage rooms.

The climate there is cool and dry, ideal for storage.

Note that this area is great for camping vacations, skiing trips, hunting in the adjoining national forest, etc.

For those concerned about micro novas, pole flips, etc. I think that 7,000 feet East of the Rockies will be high enough, despite what Mr. Vogt says.

I will consider doing group orders of food, canning jars by the pallet, etc. to offer savings to all.

If I do this, I will be selling my fully functional homestead here south of Houston with a stocked pond, deep well, large barn, 4 bedroom house, backup generator, extensive gardens, chicken yards, etc. I could even throw in Sweetheart, my Jersey cow, who is in milk right now.
