I had a thought. I'm not the best at putting what I understand mentally into words to get my point across. So if you guys can follow I will give an analogy. The dual poles drifting apart...is nearing tipping point. The poles acting against each other. The earth as two halves. Imagine having a bowl on the palm of each hand. Put the rim of the bowls together to form a sphere. One pole acts mainly on the lefthand bowl. The other on the right. Now imagine the ring of fire being where the rims meet. With what I understand wouldn't the effects be like twisting the bowls in opposite directions? Are the giant cracks that are forming evidence of torque or expansion?

interesting thought LookingInward ,

I've been paying attention to the Pacific rim, at this site.

In particular the depth of earthquakes over 40 miles deep. I've noticed how they are starting to come in pairs on opposite sides of the rim at ruffly the same depth.

The twisting that your descibing would mean that earths outter mantle (below the crust) would have to be traveling in different directions or fluctuating at different speeds maybe?

Or are you thinking more that the push and pull of the earths magnetic poles are disturbing the mantle?
