She's in the ER right now waiting on a chest x-ray. The last couple of days she's been running a fever and coughing. They are concerned there has been a fluid build-up in the lungs from those nicks she received in the attack. Quoting: TrustNoOneKS She's being admitted with a collapsed lung. Will update when I know more and when I have a chance. I Want To Believe |

They did do a CT scan and the results revealed that it is not collapsed, but filled with fluid. They will insert a chest tube to get the fluid drained out. She is breathing better now that she is on oxygen. I Want To Believe |

She does have fluid buildup in both lungs. They are thinking it's a couple of liters. They still haven't gotten the tubes in to drain them. They are going to get it done today. She will be staying another night, so I'm off to head back up to the hospital. I Want To Believe |

(OP) User ID: 76946759 United States 02/20/2019 03:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I misunderstood the fluid situation. Apparently, the fluid is not actually in the lungs, but in the cavity between the lining of the lung and the actual lung. That is why it appeared that her lung had collapsed. Yesterday, they removed the fluid from her right lung cavity. It was about 1 liter and didn't appear to be infected. This is good news, so they did not leave the tube in. This afternoon, they are inserting a tube into her left lung cavity to remove that liquid. They believe it will be about 1/3 of a liter by the time it is removed. She is already breathing much better, is off of oxygen, and her chest isn't hurting nearly as much following the draining of the right lung cavity yesterday afternoon. I anticipate that she will feel even better following the left lung cavity evacuation. She should be able to be discharged from the hospital sometime tomorrow as long as she continues doing well. They wanted her to pass a couple of walking tests where they walk her up and down the halls while monitoring her vitals. The first test she did okay with her oxygen levels, but her heart rate was too high. The second test they did, her heart rate went even higher and her oxygen numbers dropped too low. There is just a little bit of fluid in the both lung cavities, but at this point they are not concerned about it. I'm headed back up to the hospital for the night. (OP) User ID: 76946759 United States 02/26/2019 11:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yesterday Samantha saw the trauma team to get a follow-up x-ray for her fluid accumulation in her lung cavity. There was a little bit more on the right side than when she discharged last week, but they still aren't too worried about it. Today, she saw Dr. Linnell for follow-up to her shoulder nerve replacement and tendon replacement for her wrist. They took the stitches and staples out and she got a new cast put back on for the wrist that doesn't include her elbow this time. The cast will stay on until her next appointment on March 22nd and then she will start 6-9 months of physical therapy for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. I Want To Believe |

Apparently, the ex-boyfriend is still not right in the head. Apparently, he sits in his cell in the infirmary naked and talks to the wall. He did attempt to interview him once, and the only time he appeared to be lucid was when he talked about his time in the military. At times he was talking to "the guy standing behind the detective" when there was no one else in the room but the detective and him. He's going to attempt another interview this week. She performs peripheral nerve surgery. One of the patients who was spotlighted had similar injuries to those your daughter sustained. The results were miraculous. It'd be worth checking out. The outcome is best if done within six months. In the meantime, you, your daughter and family, and the veteran himself are in our prayers. |

Quoting: BirdMom I'm sorry to hear this Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47809707 I hope she heals up quick God bless you and hang in there Jesus is returning soon Jesus will save us Thanks bunches! She is doing much better. I think we are finally over the hump and on the road to recovery. She is actually going to make her first visit to my 3rd floor apartment tomorrow for a visit with her kitties. She misses them so much and hasn't been able to get up and down all 3 flights of stairs. I've felt so bad about it that I've actually been making little videos of the kitties to make her feel better about not being able to see them. This is the last one I made her. They are so darn cute! Get help or gtfo of society. It's funny how some people can deal with hard shit and some just can't. My daughter got ptsd from a near drowning incident. It was bad enough she was on a liquid diet for 6 months because she thought she'd choke on food. Guess what. An 11 year old girl got past it. |

I am going to make a donation tomorrow. I am a survivor of domestic violence, and while it wasn't good, it was nowhere near as bad as what happened to your daughter. Unfortunately, he is still rambling incoherently and not making any sense as of today and can't even be interviewed about the incident. He's been charged with attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated assault and battery with intent to cause grave bodily harm, criminal threat, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Apparently he was using heroin and no one even knew about it. I was about to say it sounds like drugs are involved and sure enough...... |
