Jesus told the evil doer "You will be with me in paradise". What did he mean, was the man going to heaven as if death is a promotion?
You will be with me in Paradise.”—LUKE 23:43.
HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER?

How did God’s dealings with Abraham suggest a future paradise?

Regarding prophecies in Isaiah, what suggests that there will yet be a greater fulfillment?

What indicates that Jesus and the criminal next to him did not go to Paradise on the day that they died?

1, 2. What are some differing ideas about paradise?

IT WAS a very emotional scene. As foreign delegates left the stadium after a convention in Seoul, Korea, local Witnesses crowded around. Many of them waved, calling out, “See you in Paradise!” What paradise do you think they meant?

2 Paradise means different things to different people. Some say that paradise is a fantasy. Others say that paradise is wherever they find joy and satisfaction. A starving man sitting at a banquet might feel that he is in paradise. On seeing a glen full of wildflowers, a 19th-century visitor cried out, “Oh, what a paradise!” That site is still named Paradise, though it receives over 50 feet (15 m) of snow yearly. What does Paradise mean to you? Do you hope for it?

Paradise is Heaven, where God's throne presides.

Earth is His footstool.

How I look at the verse is this:
Jesus promised the thief that he would be with Jesus in paradise. But not that day.
To paraphrase the verse - I tell you today that you'll be with me in paradise.
For the thief it's an event that has not happened yet. He is asleep in Christ.
I say this because there is no comma in the original text.

Yes, for most of us who are decent good people death will be a promotion to a better place. No point in thinking of death as a cold dark grave is there? I don’t get why that would be anyone’s preferred belief. As you can see, the Bible gives various options on what happens after death.

the word paradise does have a few meanings beside Heaven. a quick google search will list them, once you apply the right meaning it wont matter about the comma

simpleton, spirituality is currently
not your thing

you don't understand metaphor

you need to start with language

you will finish with language as a cultural construct

only your actions are available to others in determining your "spirituality"

so again, what about language?

: an intermediate place or state where the souls of the righteous await resurrection and the final judgment or better known as Abrahams Bosom

and you don't have to know you are there, to be there

just because a prophet of god sees a vision doesn't mean those in his vision are aware example

Revelation 20:12 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

these people are dead that he is seeing

Re: Jesus told the evil doer "You will be with me in paradise". What did he mean, was the man going to heaven as if death is a promotion?
It is my understanding the word used is "Paradoxos".

The translation with that word takes on a whole new meaning.

Something like...

You (are) beside me in Paradox...

par·a·dox:

"a statement or proposition that, despite sound (or apparently sound) reasoning from acceptable premises, leads to a conclusion that seems senseless, logically unacceptable, or self-contradictory."

"a situation, person, or thing that combines contradictory features or qualities."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How (((they))) managed to establish paradise as the word paradox, is anybody's guess.
Paul calls paradise the third Heaven in 2 cor. 12-2
I wonder how Paul felt about death hmmmmmm oh here it is
“For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:1–8)
He didn't say how long he'd be in paradise with him did he? Nope, didn't think so, so for all you know he could have called him up before the throne before sending him to hell where he belongs and still it would have been according to his word, you don't know.
Re: Jesus told the evil doer "You will be with me in paradise". What did he mean, was the man going to heaven as if death is a promotion?
Chapter 8, VIII
1 And those men took me thence, and led me up on to the third heaven, and placed me there; and I looked downwards, and saw the produce of these places, such as has never been known for goodness.
2 And I saw all the sweet-flowering trees and beheld their fruits, which were sweet-smelling, and all the foods borne (by them) bubbling with fragrant exhalation.
3 And in the midst of the trees that of life, in that place whereon the Lord rests, when he goes up into paradise; and this tree is of ineffable goodness and fragrance, and adorned more than every existing thing; and on all sides (it is) in form gold-looking and vermilion and fire-like and covers all, and it has produce from all fruits.
4 Its root is in the garden at the earth’s end.
5 And paradise is between corruptibility and incorruptibility.
6 And two springs come out which send forth honey and milk, and their springs send forth oil and wine, and they separate into four parts, and go round with quiet course, and go down into the PARADISE OF EDEN, between corruptibility and incorruptibility.
7 And thence they go forth along the earth, and have a revolution to their circle even as other elements.
8 And here there is no unfruitful tree, and every place is blessed.
9 And (there are) three hundred angels very bright, who keep the garden, and with incessant sweet singing and never-silent voices serve the Lord throughout all days and hours.
10 And I said: How very sweet is this place, and those men said to me:
Chapter 9, IX
1 This place, O Enoch, is prepared for the righteous, who endure all manner of offence from those that exasperate their souls, who avert their eyes from iniquity, and make righteous judgment, and give bread to the hungering, and cover the naked with clothing, and raise up the fallen, and help injured orphans, and who walk without fault before the face of the Lord, and serve him alone, and for them is prepared this place for eternal inheritance.
HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER?
How did God’s dealings with Abraham suggest a future paradise?
Regarding prophecies in Isaiah, what suggests that there will yet be a greater fulfillment?
What indicates that Jesus and the criminal next to him did not go to Paradise on the day that they died?
IT WAS a very emotional scene. As foreign delegates left the stadium after a convention in Seoul, Korea, local Witnesses crowded around. Many of them waved, calling out, “See you in Paradise!” What paradise do you think they meant?
there were 2 thieves put up on crosses with Jesus. The first one mocked him, the second one believed who Jesus claimed to be, this thief acknowledged that he deserved his punishment, but also proclaimed that Jesus did not.
Luke 23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
then the thief said:
Luke 23: 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
If Jesus told this thief he would be with him in paradise....aka heaven, then you can bank on it being true.
Let me put this thread to sleep
Paradise in the bible from the greek means park.
Park in the bible is what Eden was/located. This is where we go, and where God desires us to return - the park with him/all of us.
Have any here had a calling from God to 'climb the mountain'?
Heaven is the essence from which our souls came and will someday return.
Earth is hell.
You get reincarnated over and over until you achieve enlightenment and your soul is able to break free and return to heaven.
What Jesus is saying is that someday, after many incarnations, even the evil doer will get to heaven.
