Jesus told the evil doer "You will be with me in paradise". What did he mean, was the man going to heaven as if death is a promotion?

Paradise is Heaven, where God's throne presides.

Earth is His footstool.

I can stand as a witness to that.

How I look at the verse is this:
Jesus promised the thief that he would be with Jesus in paradise. But not that day.
To paraphrase the verse - I tell you today that you'll be with me in paradise.
For the thief it's an event that has not happened yet. He is asleep in Christ.
I say this because there is no comma in the original text.

Yes, for most of us who are decent good people death will be a promotion to a better place. No point in thinking of death as a cold dark grave is there? I don’t get why that would be anyone’s preferred belief. As you can see, the Bible gives various options on what happens after death.

the word paradise does have a few meanings beside Heaven. a quick google search will list them, once you apply the right meaning it wont matter about the comma

The comma matters because it, as far as reading the passage is concerned, determines when the thief will be in paradise.

It is my understanding the word used is "Paradoxos".

The translation with that word takes on a whole new meaning.

Something like...

He didn't say how long he'd be in paradise with him did he? Nope, didn't think so, so for all you know he could have called him up before the throne before sending him to hell where he belongs and still it would have been according to his word, you don't know.

We all come from the same source and that is where we end up after this life.

When the thief is in paradise where will that be?

I know all translations have a comma, but I wasn't talking about any translations. There's no comma in the original text.

You don't know apparently what Paradise is... it is not "heaven"... let me be clearer... you don't know what Heaven is. Your question however is interesting.. but I am not going to answer it.

there were 2 thieves put up on crosses with Jesus. The first one mocked him, the second one believed who Jesus claimed to be, this thief acknowledged that he deserved his punishment, but also proclaimed that Jesus did not.

If Jesus told this thief he would be with him in paradise....aka heaven, then you can bank on it being true.

Paradise in the bible from the greek means park.

Park in the bible is what Eden was/located. This is where we go, and where God desires us to return - the park with him/all of us.

Have any here had a calling from God to 'climb the mountain'?
