Jesus told the evil doer "You will be with me in paradise". What did he mean, was the man going to heaven as if death is a promotion?

Yes, for most of us who are decent good people death will be a promotion to a better place. No point in thinking of death as a cold dark grave is there? I don’t get why that would be anyone’s preferred belief. As you can see, the Bible gives various options on what happens after death.
Quoting: 3643297 "For as respects whoever is joined to all the living there exists confidence, because a live dog is better off than a dead lion. 5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun." Ecc9:5 ...Until when? That writer sounds like a depressed embittered old man with no faith in God. I wouldn’t put much stock in those words if I were you.
