One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children into slavery: This is Hagar. 25Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present-day Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. 26But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. 27For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth and cry aloud, you who have never travailed; because more are the children of the desolate woman, than of her who has a husband.”b 28Now you,c brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29At that time, however, the son born by the flesh persecuted the son born by the Spirit. It is the same now. 30But what does the Scripture say? “Expel the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”d 31Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman. |

As Sarah got older, though, she lost faith in this. So did Abraham, or else he would not have gone along with Sarah's plan to give him an heir...to "help" God along, because their faith dwindled. As a result, Ishmael's descendents became the pagan Arabic nomads, of whom Mohammed was one. |

Abraham took Hagar as a second wife when his wife Sara could not conceive a child. Sara eventually did conceive and gave birth to Isaac. In the… end, Hagar and Ishmael were banished so Isaac could be Abraham's heir. Hagar is a biblical person in the Book of Genesis. She was an Egyptian handmaid of Sarai, who gave her to Abraham to bear a child. The product of the union was Abraham's firstborn, Ishmael, the progenitor of the Ishmaelites. Various commentators have connected her to the Hagrites, perhaps as their eponymous ancestor. How did you conclude your response? Does not say Sarah was mother to Ishmael. Just curious. Is this where “old hag” come from? |

If he were a mistake, God would not have blessed Ishmael to become a "great nation" (the same blessing given to Isaac). Ishmael is one of the only two people blessed to become a great nation. Strange how Jacob's own twin brother, Easau, was hated by God and did not receive a blessing to become a "great nation". God promised Abraham that he would be a father of MANY nations, not just one. Those nations are comprised of his descendants (from Sarah, Hagar, Keturah). With the exception of Israel, all the other nations are compriser of Arabs who today occupy the land from the Nile to the Euphrates. |

The new covenant represents freedom and the old covenant bondage. Thats why the son of the freewoman (Isaac) had to inherit the birthright. The birthright includes both a king and a kingdom. Jacob passed the kingship portion of the birthright to Judah which was secured with the first coming of Christ through the tribe of Judah. The kingdom portion of the birthright was given to the sons of Joseph. 1 Chronicals 5:2 For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's: The King must return for His kingdom. When the kingdom is established all the nations of the earth will be blessed. That was the plan from the beginning, for the earth shall be filled with the knowlege of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14. |
