It can also crank these out orders of magnitude faster than any graphics designer could ever hope to do. |

Quoting: The Gullible Skeptic Very soon it will be indistinguishable from reality. Voice software is also keeping pace. Total fabrication. But a positive is that if everything is fabricated then everything can be questioned. I don't see inherent distrust of all forms of media as a good thing. Especially once it reaches the point that the average person can do this by themselves from their basement without much effort. At least right now, if a fake this good was made in full motion video you could reasonably assume that it took a very skilled team to pull it off. "Deep fakes" are still easy to spot from amateurs. That may change soon, and I don't think that's a good thing. |

On the bright side, if you want to make a hoax conspiracy claim you can now grab a high resolution photo-realistic fake face to use as a portrait of the "source" of the story. Anyone who tries to look you up will be frustrated to no end as they go on a wild goose chase for a face and a photo that does not really exist. I expect full motion video will be next. We're entering a brave new world, folks. I agree on the video aspect. I think that in the not so far future the hollyweird actors will all be out of a job. If CGI can just make up pretty CGI people and pay them nothing it will be a great profit to the movie production companies. Those movies will still suck though. |

Thus making live testimony the only standard for evidence. I don't see that as a good thing at all. It undermines trust even between ordinary citizens. The ability to communicate and share images and video over the internet is a powerful tool. The only good thing about is that the code is publicly available, making it possible to see the datasets it was trained on and develop adversarial AI's to rapidly detect fakes generated from this AI. |

Now catfishers don't have to rely on stealing "chad" pics, they can just generate an untraceable image and off they go. If they want to get really fancy they could employ another AI that's already out there to re-pose images to generate multiple pictures of the same fake person, though that's still too much work for the average person. Soon I expect these tools will start showing up in easy to use applications. The license for this one doesn't permit commercial use, but I doubt that's going to stop someone from selling something that uses the trained model. |
