If you are seeking advice on GLP on how to be a leader, you aren't one.

The guy that quit screwed the company. I've seen this many times. A manager becomes disgruntled and hires a bunch of people that are incompetent to screw the company.

Everything...

We are housekeepers at a assisted living facility and some people have pets...she's not fond of cats...she was told we have animals when she applied.

She doesn't like the gloves...I don't order the supplies.

She has to many "apartments". We all have the same amount of apartments.

She has to many what we call double apartments compared to the other lady. Only 7 double apartments the other lady works shorter hours...she has to take the extra one.

Well since i've never been a leader I thought I would ask. Seems like you have no helpful advice.

Now, I understand (based on the other post). This complainer lady is probably older, has been at the job for a while, feels entitled.

Remind her no-one is unreplaceable.

Call her in and tell her to STFU. Document it and have her sign it. Tell her the next incident will result in a trip to HR.

Hire a leader, you will thank me for this later.

Tell her there are multiple people that would like to have her job. That it sounds like to you she is unhappy and would be happier working somewhere else. Put your foot down. She will probably change her tune if she is faced with a thought of her job going to someone else. Let her know whining and complaining is something you will not tolerate. Everyone has to work for a living. Does she think she's one of the ones that has it harder than everyone else?

Show your tax returns and don't get impeached .

Do a google search, there are plenty of things to help “train” you to be a good leader. Never yell.

You normally eat them before they have time to yell.

"xxxx", you knew what the hours were when you started and you knew about the animals. The job is what the job is. If you don't find it to your liking this might not be a good fit for you and it's probably best you look elsewhere now rather than have your negativity become an issue. The work is as balanced as we can make it, you'll get the hang of it in a few more weeks. I'm sure you can appreciate that nothing in any job ever works out "dead even". We can't control how messy a given space will be on a given day; sometimes it's a breeze, sometimes it takes more effort on our part to get it clean to our standards."

You have to love being a leader. If not, gtfo. It's not for the faint of heart. Sounds like loserville.

And, "If you have ideas about how to improve things, I would love to hear those ideas. If you have something to share that seems wrong or unfair, please also have one or two solutions to that problem before you bring them to me... "

There's so much.

Here's a few:

Seek input from those you are managing.

Let them know what you are considering and get their advice and suggestions.

Sell your ideas before you implement them, so you have buy-in.

You want your team to be a part of the process and to have their support.

Be quick to give credit to others and to show appreciation.

Don't criticize anyone in front of anyone else. Ever.

If you have to "correct", do it privately.
(Exception is if you need a witness to protect yourself from false charges of harassment.)

Treat everyone fairly, even those you dislike.

Don't play favorites.

Wow, I feel for you. I really do. Your situation is why I never applied for management positions for more money. I was content with my money with less of this management/leadership nonsense.

I actually like my job. I've made some mistakes along the way but everything is going pretty well. We get compliments all the time on how the building looks.

However I can't stand complaining and yes i've given advice and they don't take. I've asked for their input and they have none. Some people just want to complain. Thankfully the lady is getting ready to move to another department and won't be complaining to me anymore.

Focus on behavior first, the person second.

If you let your best employee get away with or do something would you be willing to let your worst employee do the same thing? If yes, you're good to go. If no, watch out, you're engaged in favoritism and creating a very, very confused environment.

They need to know what you stand for...and what you WON'T stand for.

People will follow you if they know where it is you're leading them and what's waiting for them when they get there. Remember it's not a popularity contest, you're NOT running for prom king or prom queen.

If you want THEIR respect give them your respect.

Same here. You have to sell your soul to the company/govt. , on call all the time for a crappy raise when you can be a drone and live in relative peace.

Don't worry about it. I can be an asshole, but I do it with purpose.

My sister has the same job as you do. Once I found this post, I was able to better understand the challenges you're facing. Here's a tip.... even if you don't have the power to hire/fire, they don't know that... Use your position to show authority and they will believe that you do actually have that power.

First thing make an example out of someone

Accept the leader position and fire everyone who is a helpless irritant. Then hire some competent sane people to replace them.
