A taxiing Southwest plane struck wings with a parked airliner at a terminal gate, Newark Liberty International Airport confirmed. Passengers sat on the tarmac have claimed they can see part of a wing lying on the ground. Travellers worried about getting to their holiday destination reported their plane being hit by another, and said they were told to remain seated with their seat belts on. Many have taken to Twitter to voice their confusion, expressing concern over 'safety practices'. That is not a runway. People are so friggin stupid. |

Nosy passengers pointing out the window, "look, look!!" , and , "oh NO!! is that a piece of our wing on the ground?". Now they have to exit the plane and all get re-boarded on another flight, disrupting peoples lives just because people do not know how to mind their own business and enjoy the flight. Maybe making it mandatory to have the blinds down during take-off might mitigate this kind of thing. And stop looking for things to go wrong, that is how accidents happen. The pilot should have come on the intercom and said " Look, let us fly the plane, we are the professional's," as he starts advancing to the runway, getting ready for take off, " if you wanted to be a pilot, you could have went to flight school and became one,and you could be flying this plane right now, listening to a bunch of spoiled brats cry ing about airplane parts scatter on the ground.Still think becoming a doctor instead was a good idea?" |

Those issues in one department are a distraction in other departments,,,something called Human Factors. |

Yes on some planes you can fly with one side missing the procedure to do that is called CDL. Maintenence will inspect wingtip Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69153735 and make the call. Was told there is no CDL relief for a missing winglet on the 737. My airline doesn't fly them but on some of the fleet types we have you can go without a winglet. Small performance penalties apply and some have a minor fuel burn adjustment. |

It would seem possible to rivet or weld in a new winglet and rebuild the end of the wing, but I've never heard of such a repair being done. . On a recent trip, the southwest fare was ten(10!) times higher than frontier. I flew frontier of course, nice new 321, flight attendants not clogging the aisle the entire flight. It's been a long time since I flew. But SW used to be the super-discount airline. . Nope, they are often more expensive than AA, DL, and UA.The unions there are doing a good job of killing the golden goose. |
