My family was awakened by it last night at about 2:30 am CST, and it wasn't a smoke alarm, but it had the near same pitch and tone. We checked the smoke alarms but it wasn't them. The alarm was a constant beep, not the typical beep, beep of a smoke alarm, and it wasn't an amber alert or anything of the sort coming out of our phones, as those are on vibrate. We really don't know what it could've been, and the strange thing is that my wife and I believe it was centered in our bedroom closet. There's nothing in there, and the beep only lasted about 3-5 minutes. The only thing in that vicinity was a vintage tube radio that I picked up recently. It was plugged in, but not turned on. Going from sleep, to panic, to finding out there's no fire (relief), then to confusion, is a strange feeling. Oh my gosh, yes. Ever since I moved here 14 yrs ago. it stopped briefly for 9 mos or so then I heard it again last week. exactly like alarm in the middle of the night. disconnected all the smoke detectors it was making me crazy.

Several years ago we moved into the house we live in now. After a year or so, I kept hearing the chirp of a smoke alarm, but the ones in this house were fine. Night after night I heard it, and sometimes during the daytime. Finally found it. The previous owner set one inside the hot water "closet" enclosure. It's battery was dying, and it was reminding us to replace the battery. Still have no clue why the previous owner chose that location to install a smoke detector. Maybe they had a fire once that was caused by a defective water heater(?) :doom360:

I hear a loud BANG! sometimes when I'm drifting off to sleep....it startles me awake with my heart pounding....I know its in my head cuz my wife sees me startled while she's in bed reading.....

Reminds me of the story when I was a landlord, had a duplex when I was starting out with real estate, lived in one half and rented out the other. Had a tenant that obtained a lizard pet in an aquarium that lived on crickets. Ok, no problem. Problem came when one of the crickets went down the furnace vent. I swear it felt like I was camping in a tent for nearly a month! Constant chirping through the vents. Quoting: FarMore replaced all of them in house 3 times. brand new house & there were weird electrical issues since day one. garage doors opening & closing by itself, lightbulbs burn out often, just odd things that became spooky. electricians did all the socket & panel tests but never found anything. removed all smoke alarms but still hear thr beeping, chirp from time to time. I even did a radiation test a month ago. sure enough the creepy areas were the highest reading. my neighbor hasn't had any of the issues I've had.
