Just got buried with almost 4 feet of snow in my area...Happy New Year...the substation power went down and the whole area and town no power....and a large surrounding area...

I am so glad I switched to satellite based internet and phone as lines are laying everywhere...some not snapped but touching the ground and stretched because of the heavy wet snow...

took two hours to break a walking trail from the house to the road....

Running on a generator now....

Atmospheric river hitting bc right now and to last all week again...so another 2 feet of snow over the next week again....

Its been between 0 and 5 degrees and not cold at night...It snows then rains on the snow...had to shovel off two roofs already because they were starting to creak with 4 feet of snow on them as the snow didn't slide...we all have metal roofs for this very reason in this snow belt region....

There is a country store 12 kms from me and everybody was converging there yesterday...they had no power but a small generator making coffee...some people are so unprepared and the store as well...they had a silly little 2000 watt generator...moving all there food from the fridges to the freezers....the gas pumps and propane inoperable and the power surge blew there panels to run the pumps so even when the power comes back on they need to fix the boards that run the gas pumps and such....

some people slept in their cars as the thought of breaking a trail to there homes was too overwhelling to them...They shouldn't be living out here if they cant even make it to their homes from the road....be the first ones dead in a crisis....

I was surprised as how many chatting at the store had no generators out here for times like this...they were wondering how to do anything without power....couldn't even figure out how to even make a cup of coffee....some of them...

Had to drive 35km to the next town for fuel and stuff as they had power...

Shows you how fast people can get themselves into trouble...some had not enough fuel to even drive to town in their vehicles because they don't keep their tanks full and or even half full...went to the store thinking they could get fuel and the store had no power....

The store needs to step up and get a big enough generator to run their pumps...Had they been able to pump fuel and get people propane this crisis could have been adverted and many would have been in better shape and could have weathered this storm easier...

hope people woke up after this and give their heads a shake....
