I fail to see this as evidence of fakery. The man lying on the ground was only slightly wounded and was probably phoning his wife or friend to tell them what had happened and what he wanted them to do. I'd do the same if it had happened to me.

I believe that they had studio (Hollywood) glass in the car, which is supposed to shatter with the force from the blank cartridges. For some reason, the windshield was too strong, or the blanks were short-charged. He finally gave up on the windshield, and the side glass performed as designed.
