Explain this simple thing to him: the more you allow government to run things, the more room there is for corruption. Get him to look at the payroll for the education system in Baltimore or some other messed up city, and the spending per student ratio vs the student performance. Not the teacher pay, but the super, the trustees, the IT director and so on.

No matter how corrupt Google or Starbucks is, no one is forced to go to one or give them your money. Not so with government.

Elected officials? They are spit in the bucket. The underlying problem are the hoards of bureaucrats. And how did those bureaucrats get jobs that pay more and have better benefits than the private sector, and more job security? By being friends or family of the elected officials.

Government employees do very well under socialism, as do their friends and relatives. Everyone else, not so much.

Don't know. Don't follow them.
