It's possible that the towers collapsed because of naturally occurring thermite. Thermite is, crudely, powdered iron rust and powdered aluminum. The powdered iron oxide react with powdered aluminum to produce iron and aluminum oxide, releasing tremendous amounts of heat in the process. The towers were many decades old. The steel beams rusted, and the aluminum airplanes vaporized. If this is actually what happened, it can be done again with very old buildings like the Empire State Building. When the Empire State Building was hit by a plane it was not as old as the Twin Towers were when it was hit. It's possible the construction geometry of the Twin Towers facilitated the process.
