(OP) Senior Forum Moderator User ID: 71504938 United States 05/29/2020 06:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So before this virus came onto the scene we had the Amazon burning and it has me thinking in what ways is that connected to China...deforestation chain reaction - wildlife adapt (relocate, migrate) or die. Although likely not anything to do with the virus we all know China has been under the table in almost every country around the world. Quoting: Ricky M ---- The 2019 Amazon rainforest wildfires season saw a year-to-year surge in fires occurring in the Amazon rainforest and Amazon biome within Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Peru during that year's Amazonian tropical dry season.[5] Fires normally occur around the dry season as slash-and-burn methods are used to clear the forest to make way for agriculture, livestock, logging, and mining, leading to deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. Such activity is generally illegal within these nations, but enforcement of environmental protection can be lax. The increased rates of fire counts in 2019 led to international concern about the fate of the Amazon rainforest, which is the world's largest terrestrial carbon dioxide sink and plays a significant role in mitigating global warming. [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] The rain forest here in Brazil has progressively fallen victim to global demand for soy and beef. And the country’s biggest customer for both is China. The story of the Amazon has become entangled not simply with the story of Brazil’s poor protection of its forest frontier but also with that of the rise of this new superpower and its food-security strategy. Soy is China’s weak link, the main food commodity it needs from the outside world. The country imports the crop, which it mostly uses to feed its pigs, and Chinese state-owned companies also invest directly in Brazil’s supply chain so the South American country can increase its own exports. This growing hunger for soy has incentivized Brazilian prospectors to keep pace by razing pristine jungle, thereby accelerating deforestation. “We are champions of soy and cattle,” Daniel Brolese brags. China’s “demand is what reassures farmers here.” BR-163 is also right where China sees an opportunity for its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The global infrastructure-development strategy envisions an international network of railways, ports, energy pipelines, and other megaprojects connecting Beijing’s economy to the world. Backed by financing from Chinese state-owned banks, more than 60 countries have committed to or expressed interest in participating. Brazil already has two BRI-designated deals, both in the Amazon: a high-voltage transmission system to distribute energy from the Belo Monte Dam, and an expansion of the São Luís port. Ferrogrão could be the third. Physically paralleling BR-163, the railway project would reduce transport costs by 40 percent and shave weeks off delivery dates, making Brazil more competitive against its chief soy rival, the United States. But he believed international pressure could force the government to do so, as happened last year when global outrage resulted in the military being deployed to extinguish fires in the Amazon. “Just in the Brazilian Amazon we have 103 indigenous groups which have never been contacted – they represent humanity’s pre-history,” Salgado said. “We cannot allow all of this to disappear.” [link to www.theguardian.com (secure)] ‘Lungs of the world’ in flames [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

Nearly 23% of those reported deaths are black Americans. But black people make up about 13% of the US population. There isn't clear evidence yet to explain why the pandemic is disproportionately affecting people of color. But the CDC says underlying health conditions, income inequality, and lack of access to quality health care could make minorities more susceptible”.-skimm For your posts |

I do see plenty in my community just not as many I don't think most of them take it seriously and that's why more of them are getting infected. One thing that really pisses me off with the black lives matter shit yeah I agree black people are treated poorly but so are white people it's not all about the color of your skin if you're poor 'they' don't like you. And tbh I've seen a lot of blacks with great paying jobs and driving nice cars and wearing the latest fashion. So that's great and all but that doesn't scream oppression to me. I see the oppressed though don't get me wrong but I don't think they will be satisfied until they see white people walking around in chains and being whipped and shit. They act like black people were the only slaves to ever exist. White people were slaves too. A lot of people were traded from Europe and no one really talks about that shit. Also Australia is just a bunch of prisoners from the UK but who is screaming about that? |
