Says the most established method to find distances in deep space is measuring the amount of redshift. Starlight from distant galaxies leaves it source as visible light. By the time it’s reached us, it has redshifted down the electromagnetic spectrum into infrared. The redder the light, the further away the galaxy that produced it.
Redshift is represented by dimensionless number z. Z=O denotes present time.
Andromeda blueshifted as the galaxy is moving towards us.
They are looking in extragalactic fields to see which is the furthest lol
