Re: Only 100 square miles of solar panels are required to power the entire United States
And when a hailstorm destroys a vast number of them, what then? Or a tornado? Earthquake? Other natural occurrence of nature? Why not reveal the Tesla files, give everyone free energy, and be done with electrical power all together, by tapping into the same conductive force that induces gravity? Because money, profit, and the control of vast swathes of resources, in order to cage the mind, and harvest the soul.
 Quoting: Zoink

Mr. Westinghouse and a certain J.P. Morgan saw better fit to destroy Nicola Tesla's radiant free electricity idea and to install the meters on the wires they owned and let the fookers pay up.

"Of all the great inventions and discoveries of Nikola Tesla, nothing stood out with greater potential benefit to the whole of humanity than his discovery of Radiant Energy in 1889. The series of observations that led to the discovery of Radiant energy initially grew out of experiments that Tesla had conducted in an attempt to duplicate the results that Heinrich Hertz had claimed to achieve in affirming the existence of electromagnetic waves, the discovery of which Hertz announced in 1887. While replicating Hertz’s experiments, Tesla experimented with violently abrupt DC electrical discharges and discovered a new force in the process. Only after conducting exhaustive experimental trials for the next three years, did Tesla announce this stupendous discovery in a paper published in December, 1892, entitled “The Dissipation of Electricity”. Incredibly, most academicians of the day completely missed the mark in understanding the true significance of his paper. Noted scientists such as Sir Oliver Lodge, mistakenly thought that Tesla was referring to high frequency AC electricity in the operation of the Tesla Transformer, a huge blunder that remains to this day in the misnaming and misinterpretation of the Tesla Coil. The transformer that Tesla referred to in the 1892 paper did not operate on magnetic/electric field induction created by alternating currents. It operated in an entirely new domain of physics based on abrupt discharges of electrostatic potentials and the subsequent release of kinetic Radiant Energy from the omnipresent ether. Tesla was now operating under entirely new rules which he referred to as “dynamic” electro-static forces and had, by now, completely abandoned any further interest in the AC waveform. "

We're not using solar panels for anything.

We're doing free electricity.

Because fuck them.

We are in a motherfucking power grid, using solar panels is retarded.

only.

only 10000 square miles

only 1 million 593 thousand panels per square mile

only 15 billion 593 panels required

At only 800 per panel including panel / inverter / assembly, it would only cost about 12 trillion 744 billion.

only about 38000 per person

only about 144 000 for a family of 4

Not including the batteries, or tying into distribution.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57933017

800 per panel is the upper range high retail cost at Walmart

you can probably get a wholesale deal on 15 billion of them

and we would produce them at cost, since we wouldn't allow private corporations to make a killing off of us

forgot to add

residential share at 132 million user with average bill of 112 and usage of 850 kwh = 28 panels worth or only 24% ( rest is used by city / government / businesses ) which would all download cost to customer / citizen. But ignoring that, the cost to finance per household would be:

only 3 trillion / 132 million users or: 23000 per person with a finance cost over 30 years to save would only be $116.

So assuming somehow businesses would not download costs to consumers and assuming somehow governments woudl not download costs to taxpayers, in 30 short years, this would pay for itself.

Sure, and all the rare earth minerals mined in china would just stay the same, and pulling 15 billion panels out of the supply market wouldn't affect pricing either.

On a 'small scale' of a megawatt there is economy of scale. Using up the entire resources of many industries kills that scale as all the materials skyrocket.

People get confused by the panels, that's like 10% of the problem. HOLDING ELECTRICITY is the problem holding it in large enough amps to push it down huge wires.

If people used less and made their own juice, that would be a stronger nation of people.

A lot of cities have laws against installing solar panels on your house without connecting them to the power grid. Even if the power grid goes down, you are not allowed to run your house directly off your own solar cells. The power companies lobbied for this.

Wouldn't need to blow them up, how about a hijacked cropduster plane filled with paint to block the light chuckle

But as with all electrical systems, would be cheaper and easier just to cut the wires, do that in enough places . . .

I am on my first cup of coffee and just saying good morning. Of course it would be good if we had a good range of different decentralized sources of power, solar included where appropriate.

That's all fine and dandy if there were a need for it, but there is not. The US is perfectly capable of producing energy in traditional ways. There is no shortage of energy. There is only a shortage of the desire to produce and distribute it. Same as fresh water. Who is going to do this? The government?

Re: Only 100 square miles of solar panels are required to power the entire United States
Even if we covered the entire US with solar panels, you need other forms of generation because the sun is not out 24x7x365 and the solar panels are not producing 24x7x365. To keep up with the demand of the grid, we will ALWAYS need nuclear, fossil, hydro generation to keep up with the grid demand. Solar can never stand on its own. Add the cost to recycle solar panels (toxic silicon) after its aprox 10 year life has been exhausted and add in the amount of electricity needed to recycle. I want the cheapest energy I can get. Nuclear, Natural Gas, hydro and clean coal gasification. Wind and solar are scams to make ypu feel good and not good economics and not 100% environmentally clean. Do your research instead of being sheep.
 Quoting: Leo17

Wind, hydro and solar can work together. Also wood/plant material are stored solar. I would stay away from nuclear because companies are too cheap to do the right thing.

Energy can be stored as compressed gas, water/gravity storage or flywheel batteries.

Eventually fossil fuels would peak and become too expensive. I do not know when but in somebodies lifetime.
