Medicare Scam Alert !

We had a fire in our apartment building last fall and our fire dept. has been totally downsized. If there had been another fire in town, we would have been screwed. Someone scoured the newspapers knowing full well about the downsizing cuz immediately after, someone called asking for a donation to the fire dept. annual fund raiser.

If anyone isn’t sure if it’s legit, just never, ever give out information. I always ask them to send a request from their dept. thru the mail. Just be steadfast that you will not give them any information over the phone. If they can’t deal with that, they’re not to be trusted.

Of course, hanging up works too.

I got a call from Medicare just about an hour ago. Very professional. I let her talk for about 5 seconds and hung up. Ya, like Medicare is going to be calling ME. I'm 75, and been around the block a little.

How I now treat scam phone calls:

My phone lets me know a probable scam call as it rings, so I answer it, but remain silent (don't say "hello", don't say a word).. until a real person starts talking....after he/she says her first sentence, I say, "YOU STUPID CUNT."

their usual method:
It is usually a person asking for a person with a different name than mine, then they say..."Oh! maybe we can ask you for money instead!"

I get a LOT of calls from "medicare services", to get back braces, knee braces, all kinds of medical devices and supplies. Sometimes I just hang up immediately, sometimes I tell them to not call anymore, and they still call back no matter if I hang up or tell them not to call anymore.They are relentless.The same with "credit card services", "home security systems", "medical alert devices", "extended vehicle warranties", etc. Even though I am on the "do not call list", some of these scammers call me multiple times a day.

Here's another one. I got a call from an unidentified recording saying my card will be charged $99 monthly, "press one to ok or press two to decline." Surely pressing two would in fact ok the charge scam. I hung up, so another heads up.

You guys sure are answering the phone a lot. Why not just ignore it if you don’t recognize the number. If it’s important they’ll leave a voicemail.

Once I know it is a scam call I just set the phone down and walk away. In an hour or so I will go back and hang the phone up.

The reason I do it that way is to tie them up as long as possible to keep them from bugging other people.

IKR? And they're all robocalls so you can't even yell at someone. The other day I actually DID get a person when I "pressed 9 to be put on the do not call list", and when I explained that I was healthy, didn't need braces, pain controls, rosacea medicine, etc and to please take my name off their list, SHE hung up on ME! And to add insult to injury I got the same robocall about 2 hours later!!!!

$99 a month for what? Just curious. Thanks!

There are so many calls that come up on my phone as SPAM, I barely have to answer it anymore.

YEP ! I will tell them to take me off their call list, and they will call back the same day anyway. :(
