'A terrible, terrible thing': NASA said India's satellite destruction created so much space junk it now threatens the safety of the Int
NASA is calling India's destruction of a satellite last week a "terrible, terrible thing" and says the space debris created by the explosion should be considered a threat to the International Space Station and the astronauts on board.

India intentionally destroyed one of its satellites with a missile last week, a move Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed as one that established India "as a space power."

But NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine told employees on Monday that it posed an "unacceptable" threat to astronauts on board the ISS.

It would not take much for any rogue nation to halt human space exploration for ever.

Maybe so but as you said, the USA have also done it, last time in 2008 so Nasa are talking out their ass as usual cos they are responsible for way more junk, plus they bombed the moon not so many yrs ago lol - such hypocrisy!

But yeah, India needs to sort it's shit out before spending billions on a space program- literally chuckle

Someone on this forum called this last week. They said NASA would use the debris as an excuse to abandon the space station in the near future.

India should be feeding it’s people and concentrating on their conflict with Pakistan. These insane ill-tempered people have plenty to do on their own land and should realize they have neither the temperament nor the intellect to be dabbling in space - especially with their blatant disregard for the safety of those brave souls who may be resident on the ISS at any given time.

I would have thought that by now they’d be lobbing nuclear bombs at Pakistan or vice versa, and that at least would have kept their battles on earth and stop screwing up the valuable and limited space where tech orbits various communications, mapping, weather and other satellites. No wonder these people are known for being self-centered and arrogant as hell, throughout the entire world.

LOL, that is just too funny, coming from the country and institution that produced practically 50% of ALL the space debris outside our atmosphere.

The irony is just laughable. If India performs such a feet every day for the next 5 years it will still not surpass US in the amount of created space debris.

But go ahead soyboys, as long as you can point a finger and be superior it's all good.

It is not the amount of space debris that is the main problem, it is the location of the debris relative to other satellites including the ISS.

Since so many countries have anti-satellite technology now, after the next World War, there will be so much debris in orbit, that Man will never leave the earth again. Or it may be hundreds or thousands of years....I don't know how long it would take the debris to eventually fall out of orbit and back to earth.

This is why they always say not to give people technology before they are culturally and intellectually able to handle it. Destroy our satellite with a missile? What could go wrong?

I said from the start. India is now in an elite club of IDIOTS who have blown up in orbit satellites. They actually think they're in some special club of elite space powers now. It's a terrible thing.
