Anyway - he should just spill it all out in court and watch the fallout - nothing to lose if so......? The UK doesn't have an automatic right to trial by jury, and for stuff like bail offences it's quite often not done. He might not even be jailed for that offence anyway, even though the max is a year. Bear in mind in a different case today a guy who killed a woman and fucked off to the Republic of Georgia for a year only got 6 months added to his manslaughter sentence for the skipping bail. My guess is that he will get ~3 months in jail for the bail skipping. He'll then be remanded in custody without bail for the extradition case, because he's a flight risk. Given past cases (Gary McKinnon being the obvious one) it will be quite hard for the US to actually extradite him. Cheers  |

Maybe "any port in a storm" but interesting none the less. Ecuador seems pretty tight with the us. Living in Colombia I'm constantly dealing with converting US dollars to Colombian pesos and the fluctuating exchange rate. But the US dollar is the official currency of Ecuador. If I was in his shoes I certainly would have gone to the Russian embassy if that was an option at all. If I had a dollar for every time I got suspicious... I'd wonder who was paying me, and why? |
