This is the essence of what we now know as the powerful Led Zeppelin sound. A huge and immediate departure from the Yardbirds. So much so, that if you mention the Yardbirds to the average person today, they're like, "What's that?" The people in the audience were expecting Yardbirds-style music. And were instead struck senseless by the power of what they heard. On a related topic, you'll probably enjoy this thread on the LZ forum. "WHAT THE FAMOUS SAY ABOUT LED ZEPPELIN" [link to forums.ledzeppelin.com (secure)] Where you'll find such gems as: John Lennon: "They sound alright. Jimmy Page has always been a bloody good guitar player" Eric Clapton: "They were very loud. I thought it was unneccessarily loud. I really liked some of it, but a lot of it was just too much." Pete Townshend: "I'm not one of their biggest fans, which doesn't mean that I don't like them, but means I don't really get into their music a lot." Keith Richards: "I played their first LP a lot when I first got it, but then the guy's voice started to get on my nerves for some reason. I dunno why - I imagine just a bit too acrobatic for me." |

Just wanted to add this for people who don’t know just how good Bonham was and what makes him so incredibly unique. There’s no way Zep could have continued without Bonham. I didn’t truly understand that fact until I watched this: I know a lot of y’all know this, but for anyone who is even remotely curious, I can’t recommend this video enough. |

This wasn't a very good take on Communication Breakdown. It kind of sucked. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |
