cheating on keto can lead to heart disease and early death!
It breaks blood vessels causing cholesterol to come in and bandage the area up which causes plaque build up and heart disease issues.

a cheat day can spike the blood glucose and make it look like you are a diabetic but the blood sugar won't go down for hours which is what causes the blood vessel damage.

I've heard heart disease is just undiagnosed diabetes, It's just a good idea to keep the fasting blood sugar in the low to mid 80's and don't cheat. an a1c between 4.0 and 4.6 keeps us out of the heart disease risk bracket.

I had no idea that's how plaque builds up, high blood sugars do the damage.

I guess if you want to have a cheat day, you have to do ease over to glucose burning rather than fat burning with slow carbs like beans. It could take a few days to ease out of ketosis.

unless you are disciplined and committed, it's not worth it. I'm in it for the long run. I have no interest in cheat days, If I want something sweet, i can make it sugar free. that's all I would crave anyways, something sweet.

A better diet is a Mediterranean diet high in plant based foods and anti-oxidant rich spices. It's better to eat low to moderate carb than give up carbs entirely.

It's not really possible to eat carnivore the way our ancestors did because the meat is not of the same quality, unless you eat entirely grass fed stuff from local farmers. Even then, too much protein in the diet will age you faster and cooking it well done and smoking the meat is carcinogenic. Our ancestors knew that aside from making it taste better, adding spices to the meat adds antioxidants that counter the negative effects of cooking at high heat.

Carbs don't kill. Huge meals and improper meal combining kill. Nuts, legumes, fruits, and vegetables are healthy as part of a balanced diet. Ditch the vending machine crap, pizza, hot pockets, and white flour, and perhaps gluten entirely.

Basically avoid anything that comes in a box or package. And avoid any type of bread products.
There are many stories of going on low or moderate carb diet, that it lowers your blood sugar and can get you out from being diabetic.
And it's really not a hard diet.

Glucose is produced during the digestion process from carbs

Drinking a 12 oz Coke has 39g of sugar or hydrogenated corn syrup

You will have the metabolism of a Ferrari after that. Ofcourse you have to work out

People reading this thread should also research intermittent fasting as it relates to mTOR levels and a process called "autophagy" .. we've been taught that we need to be eating constantly but as you get older, being able to get your body into a state of autophagy by lowering mTOR levels becomes more important.

A one day per week 36 hour long water fast or one day per month 60-72 hour long fast will reduce the odds of various age related diseases. During the evolution of our species, we didn't have 24/7 access to food, and our bodies adapted to the feast/famine cycle.. we have too much feast in our society and it's the main cause of health problems besides shitty diet.

My family is carrying a starvation gene which makes us susceptible to diabetes with barely any weight, we don't need to store much fat for this to happen. It's passed on for 3 generations, I'm first generation that I know that didn't experience starvation but my husband did so my kids will carry it onto their great grandchildren.

my a1c was 5.4 last year and I am officially down to 4.6 and I need to do low carb to maintain this.

that starvation gene makes sense, my ancestors were in a fasting state a lot. My dad told me when there was no food he had to eat bacon lard, he was doing keto and didn't know it. I was doing keto as a child, I would not eat anything but the fat from the meat that was cooked. My kids are very picky eaters too, all they want is high fat foods but I feed them mackerel and good fats. It's weird how I inherited the taste buds of just saturated fats.
