Eventually, it settles near the equator, and there is a few moments of temporal peace, albeit under the guise of increasing darkness. Most of humanity is dying out at this point. And those not dead are shown prepping for worse. But when the beast awakens and leaves, there more lightning, immense wind, quakes, etc. as many more people die. The beast migrates next onto North America. There are even references to the climate changing around the world in response, as other symbolically representative beasts awaken and destroy too. It was absolutely surreal and bizarre. When the lightning beast is in Boston, the lightning storm is deafeningly loud and blindly bright. There's also a scene where the centric teen girl locks herself in her home and holds her head screaming like it's going to explode in response to the intensity of the lightning. The scene itself was so severe it was almost migraine-inducing even watching it in a theater. It had been quite a long while since I had felt an uneasiness watching a film.
