Doing all the right things - betterment and always advancing spiritually, mentally, physically and socially - does not protect you from the random bullet.
You do all the right things for the day-to-day higher quality of life. There is expectation life delivered to you will be fair, longer, or any different from everyone else that does not practice such positive effort. Just the way it is.
