If he was a follower of Christ then he made it to Heaven in the blink of an eye and is now in the company of God, Christ, and many angels. Mourn for his passing, yet don't be drug down by it. Our lives go on and yours will too. Remember the best times and let the bad/sad times slip from your memory. Ours is a temporary moment on this planet and your father finally found out what the afterlife is like. Soon, within fifty years, our generation will be finding out that secret.

My condolences. When my dad suddenly died, it helped me to remember "he" had gone to heaven, and the "body" was merely the shell he left behind.

It's like Appollo 11 shedding its Saturn V. Not sure if that helps you, but it did help me.

So very sorry. To us what we see is awkward grotesque even. However he is set free to bliss. My uncle died and his death mask was not pretty. I did the honor of closing his eyes and putting him into a rested posture. His nurses were beside themselves. Though I think they may have overdosed him but he was late stage dementia so I will never know. Had to move his body around to put clothes on him. He fought the whole time. I did it because of my cadaver experience in school and to spare my father the heart ache.

Mine did too. Sorry for your loss. A good Dad is hard to come by. I pray you didn't have the other-a poor or non-existent father can very well have a detrimental effect/affect on his child. In the future, you will remember quite alot about and with him-some bad but mostly good times.

What really sucks? Is all the questions you'll come up with that you coulda/shoulda asked him, and that now you will need to rely on your own critical thinking, logic, reason, intelligence and wisdom. NEVER EMOTION. That's why they call them "the cold, hard facts". In particular, anything he knew of family history. You may not care now, but if/when you have children they will ask those questions as you probably did. As children we ask childish questions. As adults, we get to wrapped up in our own myopic lives to remember to ask.

I was the the only son of the only son, of the patriarch of the entire family line. My father was born over 100 years ago and had me very late in life-a Gen-X'er. He looked at me like an Alien most times. I could have used more of his teachings and training-particularly these days. During his grade and high school years they had to know Latin, and for good reason. Most of our higher-language comes from Latin. That's when education meant something, it wasn't "indoctrination" to psychologically fuck-up our youth for life...turn them into little Useful Idiots.
