Turning its back on greenback: Russia slashes share of US dollar in international reserves

Published time: 6 Jun, 2019 10:57

The Central Bank of Russia continues to work on diversifying its foreign exchange reserves, and is gradually moving away from the US dollar, the head of the regulator Elvira Nabiullina says.

According to the bank governor, Russia’s slower economic growth during the two years through 2015 after Western sanctions were introduced, had a huge negative impact on the country’s gold and foreign currency reserves. Back then, the holdings reportedly shrunk to $356 billion.

‘In Gold We Trust’: Waning confidence in US sends world’s central banks on buying spree

Darius Shahtahmasebi
Published time: 6 Jun, 2019 10:26

Governments around the world have recently been on a “gold-buying spree.” These countries have a tactful reason for doing so, and this reason is directly tied to the anticipation of the inevitable end of US hegemony.

Central banks are among the largest purchasers of gold. So far in 2019, they have bought 145.5 tons of gold, which is more in a quarter of a year than central banks have purchased in the preceding six years. To put it bluntly, this figure represents a 68 percent increase from the year before. Last year, central banks increased their reserves by 651.5 tonnes compared to 375 tonnes in 2017. Reportedly, this is the largest net purchase of gold since 1967.

Most interesting, however, is the class of countries that we find are turning to hoarding more and more gold, many of which are deemed to be adversaries of Washington.

As always, Russia is the largest buyer of gold. In 2018, Russia’s Central Bank purchased 274.3 tons of gold. It also dumped 84 percent of its US treasury debts (we will come back to why this is important later.)

That's exactly the point. Maybe here on GLP it is a little bit exaggerated, but the Americans are convinced of their exceptionalism. They think, they must save the world, even if nobody wants to be "saved". They will go down, like many others before them.

The Deep State is what has caused every war since the mid-1950's. Normal citizens take no part in that desire.

The Deep State is what came about from post-WWII ex-Nazi's forming our CIA - who used people like John McCain to push wars in other countries.

All Countries military need a reason to exist and a constant threat of war allows militaries to grow.

In order to get out of this mess we need less population and more unity but not necessarily globalism. Being a good neighbor absolutely.

The Central Bank's capital increases yearly, including gold holdings, and the Government had a substantial surplus in 2018. Lastly, their debt to GDP hovers around 15%.

How exactly are they going broke ?

No, our government thinks that.

We, the people, do not and want no part in foreign wars but we have no real representation in our government anymore.

We have no voice, and even when we do speak it falls on deaf ears.

Our government sold us out to globalist interests long ago.

Totally agree. Add to that the hoards of invaders from around the world, drawing food stamps and welfare checks. The chaos that will ensue when all the benefits stops can not be imagined by spoiled Americans today. Having the dollar as the world reserve currency for 75 years is all we know. I want to give you an example what's it's like in other countries....

Philippines 1987... I ask my girlfriends brother-in-law how much does a blue collar guy make in one year. A plumber, an electrician, an auto mechanic. He told me in the Philippines a blue collar guy makes $365 dollars..."per year!" One dollar per day. That's it. This is what might be in store for Americans if we lose our currency status.

Trade war battlefield: US desperately searches for rare earth metals as China hints at export ban

Published time: 6 Jun, 2019 13:40

The US Department of Defense is exploring opportunities to purchase rare earth metals, vital for the country’s weapons industry, from African countries after ominous reports that China may cut the supply chain.
Washington is currently in talks with rare earth miners from Malawi and Burundi with the initial negotiations seen as an attempt to seek new sources of crucial supplies outside China, which accounts for 80 percent of US imports of the material, Reuters reports.

“We are looking for any source of supply outside China. We want diversity. We don’t want a single-source producer,” Jason Nie, a material engineer with the Pentagon’s Defense Logistics Agency, said.

I agree with your message, however I want to add that it's not about the amount of money one makes that truly counts but rather the cost of living within society.

For instance, if in ''X'' country you'd only make $1 per day but your rent or mortgage was only $10 per month, milk, butter and bread, anywhere from $.03 to $.05 each, then you'd live a decent and normal life within your own society / environment.

Problems come when a country is too dependent on imports rather than being self sufficient and basically has no money to purchase what it needs from abroad.

The cost of living, not the amount of money available is what truly matters.

The cost of living in America is already high, many are barely getting by, they struggle to put food on the table.

A dollar collapse would send the cost of living into astronomical range and cause severe problems.

Society would break down and there would be lawlessness everywhere.

It would be horrible beyond imagination.

Think about this, Gold has always been the way to retain wealth.

I dont own any at this time i am still preparing, As I have no wealth to retain so for now have put away long term food, water, security, shelter and barter.

I have spent the last several years building or improving my garden, sprouting and small animal husbandry (rabbit, chicken and talipia) and skills.

I am building a permiculture food garden with a expandable pond pool.

Gotta go build a few chicken rabbit tractors, 30 rabbits got out yesterday of a fence pen while feeding in the grass, thank God for my Australian Shepard he chased them down and brought them back great working dog!!! We had ground rabbit patty burgers last night it was very good. Just got a meat grinder.

Gold 1901ish $20 per ounce, you could buy two dress suits and shoes for $20 dollar or a one ounce gold.
Today for $20 you can not buy two suits and shoes? Nope. devaluation / inflation.
But the same $20 gold piece is worth $1500 today!!!

Look at all failed countries/currency's. The savers lost it all when inflation is in hyper, a dozen eggs for a million dollars!!! Tour life savings for a little food.

All the countries are doing it now.

Who are our real allies anymore?

Who could we count on?

Uses to be the UK and France but they have been overrun by hordes of Muslim fanatics now.

So whos left? Austraila? Canada?

There will be a war and we will go it mostly alone.

Read the book “Crash Proof” by Peter Schiff.

If you’re lucky enough to have savings, transfer them to silver or gold and you’ll be OK. Personally, I believe Litecoin Ethirium and Bitcoin will do equally as well or better during massive inflation.
