BREAKING! 4.4 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE IN CLEVELAND

When the Mid Continent Fault that is locked, the part between the New Madrid Fault and the St. Lawrence (rift zone) Fault, lets loose ... it will go right right over where this quake occurred - down Lake Erie from about the Niagara River area, coming onto land just east of downtown Cleveland, and then continue west south west all the way to the New Madrid Fault zone (via the Wabash Fault zone in Indiana /Illinois).

WHEN that great quake actually happens (may be 1,000 years, 10,000 years in the future, or maybe just 10 years in the future?) it will be the largest mid continent EQ of modern times (last 20,000+ years) on the North American Continent.

Depending upon how the fault ruptures it could actually cause the St. Lawrence rift zone to propagate West right into the middle of the North American Continent - (which of course would mean that West Cleveland could finally be rid of crime ridden East Cleveland!!). ie: all those prophesies of the NA Continent being ripped in two would come true (remember the St. Lawrence River is to this day still tidal all the way to Quebec City, 600 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean)

There have always been small EQ's along the fault line which gave way today where it is out in the middle of Lake Erie (the fault travels NE to SW through the lake's eastern half coming ashore in East Cleveland) but very little movement over the years either east or west of those lake located cluster of quakes.


Is this quake just a continuation of the earth's plates "settling in" after the New Madrid Quakes of 200 years ago? Or an indication that more, and WORSE, is on the short term horizon AND the NA Continent is getting ready to be ripped in two?!!

Poor Cleveland, first the epic flooding and now all the children are tumbling into the swollen lake. Death and destruction everywhere.

The big dam on the Cuyahoga river is failing too.

Isn't there a theory that the great lakes will drain into the gulf? And form an inland ocean that splits the country? As predicted by that Gordon Micahel Scallion guy? Is that still a thing?

I’m about 15 minutes west of Cleveland Hopkins Airport. We felt nothing...and by all rights, a quake that size and shallow should’ve been felt. Then again, I have a 2 1/2 year old at home...it would probably take something a hell of a lot bigger to notice. LOL

The epicenter is nowhere near the mines. They start immediately West of Browns Stadium and head about a mile or so north, under the lake. Yes, there has been reports of subsidence in the mines for a few years now, and tours to the public have been closed. It’s been said that should the mines fully collapse, the overall depth of the lake could fall as much as a foot. The salinity could also pose a problem to the fish and wildlife.

I'm in west Michigan and never heard about mines under Lake Erie. That is insane! And salt, no less. Shit.

Thanks! There are salt mines under the city I'm on the outskirts of (Grand Rapids). Kind of makes me wonder if they go under the Grand River, which runs through town.

in CA a 4 might not be an issue. however, in the east coast with different building construction and older buildings, the damages could be worse. since it hit the Lakes,others did wonder about a mini Tsunami. there has been enough rain for flooding along the lake shores already.

the EQ in Va a few years back was small by CA standards it did crack the washington monument as well as broke windows.are you playing by the old rule: DOOM is not doom unless it happens to you?

as for the Nuclear plant when is the last time anyone said they trusted the government? who built,regulates,and insects that plant? as screwed up as our gov is we have a reason to be scared. with the greatest military ever,and they still can't stop some kids from invading. to "keep us safe",they grope grandma while the terrorist walk onto planes.
